As controversy continues to heat up over whether Barack Obama is a "natural born citizen" and thus constitutionally eligible to be president, Fox News has declared that Obama is "a citizen of the United States."
The proclamation came yesterday by Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, who said:
"He has produced a birth certificate. It shows his mother gave birth to him in Hawaii. It is stamped and sealed by the state of Hawaii. It is confirmed and Fox News can confirm the president of the United States is a citizen of the United States. Period."
Smith never mentioned that typical citizens of the U.S. cannot run for president, but that only "natural born citizens" can, which has to do not only with the birthplace of a candidate, but also the citizenship of a candidate's parents.
He was reacting to statements by Christian evangelist Franklin Graham suggesting Obama should produce his long-form birth certificate that includes the name of a doctor and hospital of birth.

It is not. His mother was an American. She lived here for 5 years prior to him being born, with at least 2 years being over the age of 14.
He'd need to show official name change docs to support his current moniker. And, then, where has Barry Dunham been and what has HE done over the years? Has Barry Dunham ever been or claimed citizenship in another country?
Another spooky angle for BHO: What if he was adopted? IF so, where was he born? Where is the complete paper trail?
All of this could be easily settled if he would just produce his long form...assuming he HAS one. He may not.
Good then show us the BC. The B.I.R.T.H Certificate and not the certificate of live birth.
Then it will be resolved.

The Constitution and settled law are clear on the definition of “natural born”. Mr. Soetero has yet to demonstrate he qualifies.

So, let’s say the mother is, shall we say, Maury Povich material, and she sleeps with multiple men, some of whom happen to not be American citizens, but she is an American citizen. Do we make her child take a DNA test to determine whether or not he qualifies as a natural born citizen?

I am pretty sure if the Mom is a citizen when she gives birth, then the child is a citizen — period. If the Mom was NOT a citizen, then we need to ask a bunch of other questions.
Do both parents need to be citizens at the time of birth to be a NATURAL citizen? There is no definitive answer on that.
This is a stupid argument at the current time, IMO. It is used to thwart the incredibly reasonable demand to see the long form BC. The press was ALL OVER the Bush National Guard records — and they have NO RIGHT to see those! There is NOTHING in the COTUS about those records, but by golly, back then they had a job to do, serving the TRUTH for the American Public. But the BC, well, it seems to be TOTALLY DIFFERENT, because, um, well, LOOK A RACIST!
This drive to see the BC was over played & the Media ate our lunch. I just want to see the freaking long for BC — and the only argument is to pretend I want to remove Obama. Nope. I just want to see the long form BC. What happens next is pure conjecture. So far, we have been outplayed by morons, and it kinda hurts.
Have to say, was almost nauseous listening to Shep recount Katie Couric's career at CBS. DISgusting, really. He was in total congratulatory; 'lauding'; sychophantic mode - while he recast Katie's pit-level ratings for past 'FIVE' years - it was Dan's fault.
That get's him "native born" status.....not "natural born".
"Natural born".....born in-country to parent(*S*) who are citizens. Just having mommy-citizen isn't enough...gotta have daddy-citizen, too.

I will be happy to read what you are reading, but I know of ZERO are requirement for the mother.
When we overplay the topic it makes it HARDER to make a reasonable request to see the long form BC.

I admit the President has shown a short form BC and that Hawaii has a right to accept that low standard. Okay. I just want to see the long form BC. If a person wants to be my President, I want to see their school records, their employment records, their birth records, and all the normal records.
