Obama's Silence on Boeing Is Unacceptable
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 4/29/11 | NIKKI HALEY

Posted on 04/28/2011 6:31:16 PM PDT by redk

In October 2009, Boeing, long one of the best corporations in America, made an announcement that changed the economic outlook of South Carolina forever: The company's second line of 787 Dreamliners would be produced in North Charleston.

In choosing to manufacture in my state, Boeing was exercising its right as a free enterprise in a free nation to conduct business wherever it believed would best serve both the bottom line and the employees of its company. This is not a novel or complicated idea. It's called capitalism.

Boeing has since poured billions of dollars into a new, state-of-the art facility in South Carolina's picturesque Low Country along the Atlantic coast. It has created thousands of good jobs and joined the long tradition of distinguished and employee-friendly corporations that have found a home, and a partner, in the Palmetto State.

This a win-win for South Carolina, for Boeing, and for the global clients who will see Dreamliners rolling off the North Charleston line at the rate of 10 a month, starting with the first one next year. But, as is often the case, a win for people and businesses is a loss for the labor unions, which rely on coercion, bullying and undue political influence to stay afloat.

South Carolina is a right-to-work state, and we're proud that within our borders workers cannot be required to join a labor union as a condition of employment. We don't need unions playing middlemen between our companies and our employees. We don't want them forcefully inserted into our promising business climate. And we will not stand for them intimidating South Carolinians.

“What’s Obama going to do - order GM to start building jets?”

No. Boeing is a publicly held company. They can’t just shut their doors.

Move the corporate HQ to Ireland .. get the WTO involved in the plant decision... if Obama doesn’t back down buy Embraer and expand their facilities .. announce a closing or a production line move or two out of a union facility..

Is this the “anti dog-eat-dog” rule being applied to right to work states? 10-289 will be a campaign promise for sure....

They could make blatantly poor decisions on purpose though ... “Lets bring back the 727!” “Lets buy all our engines from Rolls!” “Lets cut back on quality control ,, nobody will notice!” Let Obama take them over ,, Paneta can run it!

Boeing might just do that, but maybe not China.

India would be happy to get them. Of course, Boeing is involved in defense production and might face nationalization from a regime such as Obama's.

This crap will start a war. When labor unions in one state can coerce the government to punish another state for not being union, and take jobs from the state ...

Anyone who considers themselves American should despise this crap with every fiber of their being. This is straight up cronyism and coercive central planning.

Maybe somebody on Herman Cain’s team can make a poster that says “Who is John Galt?” with a picture of Herman in the background.

I’m hoping that someone worse than Carter will give us someone better than Reagan, because the Fair tax wasn’t around for Reagan to embrace, but I believe he would have.

I keep looking at the “frontrunners”, and thinking - NONE OF THE ABOVE.

We need a candidate who is:

Not an elitist

Not from Harvard

Not a politician

Not an insider

Not part of the “establishment”

Finally we have our man.

Herman Cain IS “none of the above”

As patriotic as Reagan, he is an articulate, engaging speaker, who would mop the floor in a debate with Obama.

Now that Trump has gotten people to start thinking that maybe we need someone who understands the economy and job creation, a lot of people will vote for Herman Cain who wouldn’t have before.

We need the Fair tax, to take power away from the politicians and lobbyists, but Rush keeps saying it won’t happen with the crowd that’s in DC now, and even if Herman doesn’t get the nomination, if he is in the primaries, more people will understand how abominable the current system is.

A plane that can go 35 miles on a single charge. Obama will be proud.

The black box would be made out of 100% recycled vegetable fibers or something.

"That is apparently too much for President Obama and his union-beholden appointees at the National Labor Relations Board, who have asked the courts to intervene and force Boeing to stop production in South Carolina. The NLRB wants Boeing to produce the planes only in Washington state, where its workers must belong to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers."

FUBO!! Communist pig!!

So. Carolina retains is soveriegnty and while a partner in a federation of states, the said union of those states is bound by the Constitution.

So. Carolina is free to pursue any law not enumerated in the Constitution to the Federal Government and their 1oth amendment right is not some mere privilege you can undermine.

Boeing should do what the Administration would do, move to SC, and build the planes anyway.

Free enterprise, free country, capitalism..... Saying that those things exist in today’s USA doesn’t make it so.

We knew when Obama won in ‘08 that we were in big, big trouble. Which fears have not been realized? This “remade” America has been in the works for decades and it is a top down, command and control nation being bullied by the executive branch now.

Not picking on Haley but her article will only make progs like Obama laugh because to them, it amounts to futile whining. “Oh really, Haley? And what are you going to do about it?”

"What power does the NLRB have to demand that a court interfere with commence here in the USA?"

Well, officially it would be a finding of an unfair labor practice. However, the real bottom line is the power of government to coerce - more and bigger guns.

Let’s not forget the almighty commerce clause. The one libs use to get their way on everything.

This time they are preventing, or trying to, interstate commerce.
