Fresno County faces $35 million in cuts

Fresno County's budget gap has widened by $4 million, and administrators are now preparing for $35 million in spending cuts that likely will lead to hundreds of job losses.

County Administrative Officer John Navarrette [said] that likely will mean fewer sheriff's deputies tending to crime, fewer agricultural inspectors looking after crop safety and fewer code enforcement officers safeguarding new homes and businesses.

"Our [money] train is not coming in," Navarrette said this week. "Everybody is just now making the adjustments."

County administrators had hoped local sales and property taxes would recover more quickly from the recession. They also had hoped state funding would increase.

Neither has, however. And like cities and counties across the state, Fresno County has continued to face higher operating costs, namely retirement expenses.

Take all financial support away from the illegals and you will save more than that. Schools, medical, welfare, housing, food stamps and the list goes on and on.

It was the hope of liberal politicians across the nation to "wait" the recession out while using federal money to weather the economic storm. Oops, it didn't work. Now they have to actually cut. So the liberals will cut the government services to make Joe Taxpayer feel the pain. This is done with the aim of the Liberals to get Joe Taxpayer to beg to be taxed more to get back the essential services. Its evil, but common.

CA will financially sink with the weight of illegals, pensions, green crap and socialist pipe dreams. Meanwhile, vast amounts of oil and gas sit untapped right off the coast. Hello....anybody home?

It can't happen fast enough for me. Nothing like a big ol' stinking dead canary on the left coast.

Found a 2009 population estimate, 915,267 in Fresno County. So, no problem — raise taxes $38, better just round it up to an even $40 a head. ;’) Thanks Oldeconomybuyer.

Why don’t we ever hear about administrators, desk jockeys, managers and supervisors getting layed off ?

Getting rid of deadwood layers of management is always the first place the private sector has to look to cut costs.

Public sector: I have never, ever, ever heard of any such means being used in government circles.

It’s always turned around to point out a dire warning to citizens who pay taxes: eww, yuck, eekk, gasp !!! You are going to lose “essential” services.
