PICKET: Take your global citizenship and shove it, Superman
Washington Times Water Cooler Blog ^ | 4/30/11 | Kerry Picket

Look - up in the sky. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Superman renouncing his American citizenship. In a move that can only be described as a punch in the face to fans of a more-than-70-year-old American cultural icon, DC Comics will have the famous Kryptonian renounce his U.S. citizenship before the United Nations in Action Comics No. 900.

In the story, Superman says to an American official, “I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my U.S. citizenship.” The Man of Steel then complains, “I’m tired of having my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy … ‘truth, justice and the American way’ - it’s not enough anymore.”

Superman comes to this revelation after he appears in Iran to offer nonviolent help for the country’s dissidents. As a result of his actions, the Iranian dictatorship accuses the United States of committing an act of war.

I’m not a comic book geek but I am pretty sure Superman was never an American citizen. Clark Kent yes, Superman no. Am I wrong?

So superman becomes a traitor. Did obama put them up to it or did DC comics go totally leftist?

There are about a million ways they could “undo” this, sooner, or later. Nothing is forever in comic-book land.

Apperently all nations, through the UN, gave Supes honourary citizenship in the 70’s. As far as Clark Kent goes, it seems kinda hypocritical, I mean last time I checked Superman’s close friends called him “Clark”.

Not natural born anyway, more of an illegal alien.

Superman’s been a fake ever since George Reeves took his own life. Nothing to “renounce” DC. He died an American citizen, so stuff it.

Is it even possible to renounce and “honorary citizenship?”

Superman is 70, he’s senile. And an illegal alien. Who needs another illegal in the US. He doesn’t even do yard work....

I think Eclipse Comic and Allan Moore did a far more interesting and accurate assessment of how a genetically superior being would act within our society.

Too graphic but probably one of the best written comic storylines ever.

Superman wouldn't last more than a few minutes, most of them crying and begging for mercy from "Kid Miracleman".

It’s a freakin comic book character.

True. But it is also one more piece of Americana that is getting slimed by the left, and a piece that is special to a lot of the 30+ crowd. Americans are getting a little bit tired of liberals taking symbols of American culture and debasing them. Superman hates America, Lincoln was gay, all of the Founders were raving racists...enough already!

Don’t know how an illegal alien can become a citizen...must have lied to take the test.. Throw his butt in jail. Keep him away from telephone booths.

So wait, as upset as I am about Superman renouncing his citizenship... I’m more upset that he wants to HELP THE IRANIAN GOVERNMENT DEAL WITH THEIR “DISSIDENTS?” REALLY?? “Dissidents” are those fighting to break out of their Islamic Dictatorship!

So now “Superman” has become the latest propaganda tool from the Obama Politburo.

Born on the planet Krypton. Unless he became a naturalized citizen, he (Superman and his alias Clark Kent) is not a US citizen.
