Bin Laden killed: How it happened (Time to bomb Pakistan for harboring Al-Qaeda)
BBC ^ | 5/2/2011 | BBC

Details are emerging of how al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was found and killed at a fortified compound on the outskirts of Abbottabad in north-west Pakistan.

The compound is just "a stone's throw" and less than 200 yards from the Pakistan Military Academy, an elite military training centre, which is Pakistan's equivalent to Britain's Sandhurst, one local journalist from Abbottabad told the BBC.

Other reports have put the distance at 800 yards.

But the compound lies well within Abbottabad's military cantonment - it is likely the area would have had a constant and significant military presence and checkpoints.

The operation began at about 2230 (1730 GMT) and lasted about 45 minutes, military sources told BBC Urdu. Two or three helicopters were seen flying low over the area. Witnesses say it caused panic among local residents.

Barbed wire and cameras

The target of the operation was the compound, which had at its centre a large three-storey building.

Obama’s speech was awful. I never in my life heard anyone use so many words to say so little in my life. And his use of the first person and his credit taking, scene stealing and general self centered behavour was appalling. He made only what seemed to me the most perfunctory and minimal expressions of gratitude and appreciation of those who actually made it happen.

The Pakistani Military and ISI knew exactly where he was for 10 years now so while this is good news that he’s dead, Pakistan must pay a price.

Well that's the little rule I always suggest (but I'm "crazy"). It's very simple: any source of attack which is knowingly harbored wins the host country a 60-day annihiliation, largely from the air, and then promptly sent a bill for the effort, which if unpaid, is simply extracted in treasure. No rebuilding.

If POTUS and Congress followed that policy, pakistan would cease to be a problem by the fall and the message would be heard very well by the world. It might take a couple more countries, but within a few years, ALL nations would miraculously be working diligently on our side to rid the world of evil. Instead, the world continues to play cowboys and indians, with politicians talking out of both sides of their mouth, using events such as this for political gain within their own country. Also - this is a yet another event that should prompt the U.S. to shut down immigration, but it won't.

The location of this cell/hq/compound is a blatant, outright slap in our face by the government of pakistan. Every day that goes by that we don't declare war and annihilate them sends a signal that we are just playing a decades or centuries-long game, sad to say. We allow them to lie to us and we continue to buy even that level of support.

2 or 3 helicopters near a military academy caused fear and panic?

This story gets smellier and smellier.

God Bless the hard work of the American military and Intell forces!!

The information about where this scumbag was had been developed over a number of years. That said this is actually the first thing I can think of that Obama has done right.

Give Obama all the credit, he deserves it.

I believe Bin laden died of “natural causes” that is a serve over dose of lead in his brain!

"Let’s hope they never identify the individual who actually delivered the candygram."

We already know who did the deed. Didn't you hear Obama's speech? I this and I that. He took a weekend off from golfing and lead the mission personally. He provided the kill shot also...

Some people think Ayman Zawahiri is the brains of al Qaeda anyway. He should have been at least as high a priority.

Disgusting how 0bama tries to make it look as if he personally planned the operation.

If he wants to take credit for this, than he can take credit for the high gas prices, high unemployment, the shabby state of the economy, Mideast turmoil, turmoil in Israel, etc., etc., etc.

He should measure what he says carefully ;).

It was soooooo noticeable. His handlers made him do it to prove he is a Christian.....Not a Muzzie who a minute before said Usama was not a muzzie.

The only 0bama speech I’ll watch is his resignation speech!

But, if he wants to take personal credit and get the Grand Fatwa, that’s ok by me :) The US military would have his back; whereas if it were the other way around...

WRONG, OBAMA! Osama was VERY good Muslim. He took the Koran seriously which is why he loved murdering Americans in cold blood. Now, thanks to the SEALs, he is rotting & roasting in hell.

So, my question is when are we gonna go after that Kim Il Jong & Abdulminiwhatever to make the world an even safer place? Mess with the best & you die like the rest. What comes around, Osama baby, goes around. Have a nice eternity w/o ac!

This is a wonderful accomplishment for the guys who did the actual capturing of Bin Laden. They are heroes. The operation reminds me of the Israeli rescue at En Geddie (sp.?).

But it’s mainly a symbolic victory. We haven’t put an end to terrorism. Another crazy will step in and take Bin Laden’s place.

"Now, thanks to the SEALs, he is rotting & roasting in hell."

I keep seeing people saying Navy Seals. Is that printed somewhere in news reports? I've only seen it say American Special Forces. Are people assuming SEALS because he was buried at sea? I think we'll never know what branch of special forces did the deed. Quite possibly it was a combination of branches that participated in the op.
