Sen. Graham questions bin Laden's burial By Jordan Fabian - 05/02/11 11:09 AM ET

A leading Republican senator on Monday question the U.S. government's decision to dispose of Osama bin Laden's body within 24 hours.

Bin Laden, the former al Qaeda leader killed by U.S. forces on Sunday, was buried within 24 hours of his death in accordance with Islamic law. Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), a top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, is skeptical of the decision.

"To me, that didn't make a lot of sense," Graham said during an interview with conservative radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.

U.S. forces were able to capture bin Laden's body after killing him at a compound outside Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad, but he was buried at sea soon afterward, reportedly to not leave a shrine to him.

The Obama administration is debating whether or not to release photos of bin Laden's body after some have expressed concern that the U.S. needs to do so to prove his death.

But others in the administration have been hesitant due to the graphic nature of the photo.

Michael Scheurer, a former CIA official, said Monday morning that the U.S. will likely release the photos to erase any doubt that he is dead.

After ten years, Obama is dead and you call it imcompetence? I am sure they found info at his hideout that will yield valuable intelligence. Killing him and dumping him in the ocean was the best way to go. No chance for him to appeal to his brethern or to be buried to become a site for muslims to pay their respects. He’s gone - good riddance.

Q. Why is Graham so upset we don't have the body?

A. He wanted to have a cold one with Bin Laden

Yes, which just confirms what I think- why didn’t Obama wait a few days for the DNA tests, then have someone (preferably not him) announce it? It is amateur hour in DC.

First, Sunday at 10:30pm EST was deliberate. It was to preempt the final minutes of Trump's program "Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC. They accomplished this with NBC interrupting the program at 10:45 to announce rumors of OBL's death. Trump really scares Obama or at least some of the handlers and teleprompter writers.

Please. The attack took place yesterday. If you doubt that then you won't believe anything else. His identity was verified no doubt not just from forensic evidence, but also from other physical evidence including documents, the people around him, etc.

Kabar, you might have missed some of the stories from the first half of the 10pm hour last night. RummyChick saw them before Minitrue scrubbed them from the Internet.

The early stories (I saw them on AP and on Reuters) quoted "anonymous sources" at the White House and the Pentagon, saying that Osama was killed a week ago, and that DNA tests results already in confirmed that the body was Osama. They also said the body was still in US custody a week later.

Those news stories mysteriously disappeared after Pres__ent Obama spun his yarn about how he personally arranged the whole thing to happen yesterday around 3:30pm EST. The story changed greatly.

Dumping the body at sea might have avoided a shrine to Osama (most likely there will still be a shrine to Osama with some kind of relic to remember him). But dumping the body at see does seem like a particularly stupid thing to do less than 24 hours after the event. The world would be more likely to believe the event with better proof, and keeping the body would have provided that proof.

If they did dump him at sea, I hope they wrapped him in bacon, and dropped him into a school of sharks.

And may all of Osama's 72 virgins look like Helen Thomas.

I heard something similar last night when watching Fox and CNN. In the beginning, the initial reports were that he was killed last week. This changed later in the programs before Obama spoke. He said it had occurred "today," which jibes with the reports on the ground from Pakistan about the date and time of the attack from eyewitnesses. I have no doubt about when and where the raid took place. The Pentagon briefing also confirms it.

The WH is considering releasing photos. They may be forced to do it if there is a great deal of skepticism about whether OBL is really dead. I am sure they also have plenty of documents and other evidence indicating who was in the house. The bodies of the other three people killed in the raids as well as some of the wounded were still in Pakistan as far as I know. One of Obama's wives identified him to our guys.

Yeah, I think the choice of yesterday was no coincidence. Also the 8th anniversary of the infamous “Mission Accomplished” fiasco.

Don’t fret Lindsey, he’s still burried under tons of rocks in Tora Bora somewhere.

I don’t trust the WH, but I do trust the Seals.

When did you talk to them?

How did somebody so stupid get elected to the Senate?

The burial makes perfect sense - nobody wants the muzzies to set up a shrine for this madman. What is so difficult to understand?

Yes, it would be nice to see the vultures pick apart his body, but that’s only temporary gratification.

I think there is some intentional disinformation out there, for nothing more than to protect those who participated in the operation, and for the future if we need to do it again for another target. Frankly, I think they already said too much, it would have just sufficed to say, “He’s dead, and that’s that, you can take it or leave it!”
