They must have been fans of the Big Red Machine, since they named him after Cesar Geronimo.

And if they code-named him “STEVE” - I would be offended.

I’ve always associated it with jumping out of an airplane, but maybe I’ve watched too much Bug’s Bunny...Or was it the Roadrunner? Either way, Geronimo was honorable.

There is no perfect world. Yet. I can’t answer your question. But I don’t blame Geronimo. I think his personality and belief made him think he could win or die trying. You can’t blame him for the affects of his effort.

Macaca would have been more appropriate.

You need to work on reading comprehension. It's clear in the opening lines it was specifically the codename for bin Laden himself, not for the operation or any action taking within the operation.
In an administration obsessed with racism and multicultural sensitivity this was tone deaf stupidity!
Bush would've been criticized, why let Obama off the hook?

Try reading the story.
Weve IDd Geronimo, U.S. forces reported by radio to the White House. Later, word came that Geronimo was dead.
"We've (identified) Osama." "Osama" was dead.
Osama = Geronimo.
Don't defend Obama's gaffe.

To do what Geronimo did was impressive in fighting for his people and land. As did Native Americans in WW11 and Korea and Viet Nam. You won't find any peoples more patriotic...altho' one could wonder why.

...I would have preferred they choose a codename like "Sh!t-For-Brains", or "Butt-Face", or "Bearded A$$hole", or something similarly descriptively accurate

Like every ethnicity they have their strengths and weaknesses. I don’t know of any modern ethnicity that I would say I’m proud of right now. We’re all divided so far that any that are good are out-numbered.

What connection the Onondaga “nation” had or has with Geronimo is pretty slim.
Now if they had used the code name “George Thomas” it would be a different story.
To: Behind Liberal Lines
Ironically, Geronimo was bulletproof.
That’s a fact: you can google it.
