When I first heard the story the term Geronimo was the code word to be given when OBL had been taken out. There have been a number of different ways the story has been told since then. I don’t think there is an official version, but the information I first heard was from a reporter who had just finished a telephone briefing from “the most senior administration officials”. Geronimo meant that the mission, the assassination of OBL, had been accomplished. Maybe that reporter got it wrong, but then maybe the reporter who penned this thread got it wrong.

I agree with them. Geronimo was an honorable man.

True but the other side of the coin is he never considered himself a victim.

“Think of the outcry if they had used any other ethnic group’s hero,”

Screaming out "Sobieski" or "Charles the Hammer" is fine by me.

“The Culture of Offended Victimhood is a very diverse population.”
How true, the “Offeneded Victimhood” is always complaining about being stereotyped and yet they perpetuate it.

The Chief might have some complaint if they had use the term “Hiawatha”.

Also if the Team had said “Got the M..F..” they would have offended a totally different “Victim-hood” I think.

“I’ve always associated it with jumping out of an airplane, but maybe I’ve watched too much Bug’s Bunny...’

You are correct. I watched too much BB growing up also.

Yeah, there was that.

But just as you would not have wanted to play the UConn women after Stanford, I would not have wanted to be the tribe that met the 7th Cav after that.

Not to get way off the reservation here, (bad pun, I know) but the Indians did not fight according to the Marquis of Queensbury. They were brutal and really did earn the title “savage.” That did not come from their pagan beliefs, but from the brutality of their attacks.

The media has us all thinking they were Chief Dan George, or the “Clean up America” Indian guy.

Geronimo was a bad dude.

Osama was a bad dude.

I guess we could have called him Tojo.

The “Clean up America Indian guy”, Iron Eyes Cody, turns out, from what I’ve read, to have been a Sicilian.

They [I believe the Jicarillas] also run [from what I hear] a highly successful, and excellent hunting operation.

A brilliant FReeper advised yesterday that the code name of the aircraft carrying Moochell is always “the Millennium Falcon”

AT least they didn't take scalps as a business enterprise - to sell. (The gov't paid pretty good.)

Oh, please do not get me wrong. There was horrific action on both sides. But, after spending a few weeks in Arizona and New Mexico last year, the Native Americans have learned about to take scalps over, and over, and over.

My point was clear. They were fighting for their homeland. And since you probably know history you know that we gave as good as we got.

Back at the White House Situation Room, word was relayed that bin Laden had been found, signaled by the code word “Geronimo.” That was not bin Laden’s code name, but rather a representation of the letter “G.” Each step of the mission was labeled alphabetically, and “Geronimo” meant that the raiders had reached step “G,” the killing or capture of bin Laden, two officials said.

You were saying? Granted it’s the AP and I read it on the internet!
Makes no difference to me what the uninformed think!
