ABERDEEN, Md - The Army will be demonstrating new "green" ammunition at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The military began providing the lead-free round last June to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. It replaces ammunition used since the early 1980s.
A live-fire demonstration will be held Wednesday morning at the post. Soldiers will fire the new and old rounds, as well as a third type, to compare the performance of all three on identical targets.

Army M885A1 ammunition: Army M885A1 ammunition:
Hopefully it’ll NOT be like a green car:
twice the price, 1/4 the range and doesn’t work well in extreme cold.
The main issue is not “the performance of all three on identical targets” but the effect of the round on an enemy soldier.
It’s essential to accurately hit the enemy, but does it kill?
It is the height of politically correct ignorance to start worrying about killing your enemy with a “Green” bullet.
Bad enough they ruin my shotgun with steel shot.
Are deplete uranium shells considered lead free? Or does a half life count?
And, will they release the photos?
From ABC’s page, here’s the Army page on it:

The part that said they plan on producing 200 million rounds of it in a year... wow.
I guess when jihadis are dying, they can go to allah and meet up with the 72 virgins knowing that their bodies will not pollute the ground they get buried in?
Since we refuse to back our currency with Gold maybe they are thinking gold is a good bullet replacement?
What’s it made of? Wood?
What kind of round was used to kill Osama?...................
There have been lead free rounds for at least 15 years and the military has been using them.
The tank museum at Aberdeen is amazing. Not sure if you can even get in there anymore. Haven’t been back since 9/11.
But I doubt if that is what they have in mind.
But you can not just go around changing the make up of bullets. You have to have a bullet that is designed for the barrel that it will be shot from in order to achieve optimal accuracy.
If the bullet make up is not correct for the rifling in the barrel the bullet may not be stabilized or it may disintegrate
A varmint grenade ?
As soon as they way the word “green” when reading about the military I see the space shuttle burning up while on reentry because of the EPA.
It had better be at least as good, if there is one tiny loss of performance in any scenario then scrap the idea. I can just see this administration pushing for a round that is 92% effective as being “worth the trade off” for environmental reasons.
Seriously, I would like to know whether they used a sidearm or a rifle.............
“Eat Green ammunition and die!!” just doesn’t have the same ring to it....
