Judith McGrath, Chief of MTV, Resigns
The NYT ^ | BILL CARTER

Posted on 05/06/2011 7:49:54 AM PDT by hobbes1

MTV Networks announced Thursday that its chairman and chief executive, Judy McGrath, was resigning. The surprising change at the top comes at a time when MTV is riding a surge in both ratings for its programs and profits for its parent company, Viacom.

Viacom said Ms. McGrath had decided it was a perfect time to leave to pursue other ventures, although those ventures were not named. She leaves at time when the company has ascended to a new peak of success, with programs like “Jersey Shore” and “Teen Mom” on MTV, “SpongeBob SquarePants” on Nickelodeon, and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central.

Ms. McGrath declined interviews, as did Philippe Dauman, the Viacom president.

“with programs like “Jersey Shore” and “Teen Mom” on MTV, “SpongeBob SquarePants”

Yes, indeed quite a legacy.

SpongeBob SquarePants gets a pass. At least he’s amusing.

Good. MTV promotes filth. The garbage coming off that channel makes me ill. Although I used to watch Spongebo with my young daughter.

I wouldn’t want having created the likes of Snookie on MY resume, thank you. Not something she should be proud of.

She also eviscerated VH1. Now she can spread her swill to even more places on the dial. She’s like a deadly virus that keeps spreading. Btw Dennis Miller had a good line recently when he called Osama Bin Laden, SpongeBomb SquarePants.

Ha! I missed this!

Viacom also announced that Ms. McGrath’s position would be eliminated.

A useless tool at the end.

I don’t believe for one second that McGrath ‘resigned.’ Nobody, but nobody, leaves these jobs except with pink slip in hand or in handcuffs or in an ambulance.

There’s more to this story.

Yes, and he has a new neighbor, Osama Bin Laden.

I never understood the fascination with SpongeBob. Having grown up in the era of Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, and other Warner Brother cartoons, I just have never understood this stupid sponge, nor found it at all amusing. I can't even understand the dialogue, much less find it funny.
