INDIANAPOLIS – Refocusing on the nation's economic struggles, President Barack Obama welcomed news Friday that the economy unexpectedly added more than 200,000 jobs last month. "We are regaining our footing," he said.
The president spoke during a visit to a transmission plant in Indianapolis, even as the killing of Osama bin Laden continued to dominate headlines and much of the president's time.
From Indianapolis he was to travel to Fort Campbell, Ky., to thank the Navy SEALs who stormed bin Laden's compound in Pakistan and shot him dead, and the helicopter operators who got them there.
But first, at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, the president promoted his clean energy agenda while offering an optimistic assessment of the economy's growth. April's labor market report marked the third straight month in which more than 200,000 jobs were created, the best three-month hiring spree in five years and a sign of increasing confidence in the private sector.
"We've made this progress at a time when our economy's been facing some serious headwinds," the president told workers, citing high gas prices and the earthquake in Japan. "There will undoubtedly be some more challenges ahead, but the fact is that we are still making progress," he said. "And that proves how resilient the American economy is, and how resilient the American worker is, and that we can take a hit and we can keep on going forward."

The EPA is a paramilitary enforcement group running amuck throuhgout the free enterprise system. Like the KGB was in Russia.
We are headed for an economic disaster of unparalled magnitude, and it is difficult to see anything that can be done now to avert this.
This statement reminds me of a story a family friend once told us. I don't know if is true or not (but, I always thought it was).
There was a flight of Air Force personnel on a mission. The Pilot looked back at the navigator and asked, “How are we doing?” The navigator responded, “We are absolutely lost. We are making great time but we are totally lost.”
Of course he was only joking but in Obama’s case, I don't think he is. He is totally lost but we are supposed to believe we are making great progress.
Train them to inspect bridges, and hire them! Better yet, put some to work building them. Fund it by shutting down the EPA...
With the element of "time" I doubt we have that before this country falls. What we will have is a mess to clean up after the fact...which will take years to turn around.
I was in Nashville last week. There were homeless sleeping under bridges etc, all over the place in prominent places smack dab in downtown. I don’t know if they were bums, but they didn’t look like the kind that enjoy that lifestyle.
We ate at Joe’s Crab shack for the first time! What a blast that was. We spent $160, including the tip. It was pure indulgence, which we can’t afford but every couple years. We tucked a $20 in one sleeping homeless guy. It’s something I wouldn’t normally do, but this guy looked ‘normal’, a casualty of Barrak Hussien Osama’s policies.
Barack Obama’s entire presidency has been one massive hit on the American economy.
Here he’s admiring how resilient it’s been to all the deliberate damage he’s personally done to it. I bet he wished he could say “Damn, it’s harder to tank you people than I ever thought it would be, you bitter clingers are clinging on much harder than I thought you would!”
We just have to get though the end of your first an only presidency, then we’ll be able to recover quite nicely.

62,000 McDonald Jobs and Birth/Death Adjustment +175,000 which means the real number of hires was not 244,000 in April but 7,000 real Obama jobs because burgar flippers don’t count.
Chile’s GDP is growing at 17% per YEAR! We are barely growing at 1.7% per year. I wonder what might cause the difference?
