Probing Link to Bin Laden, U.S. Tells Pakistan to Name Agents

Pakistani officials say the Obama administration has demanded the identities of some of their top intelligence operatives as the United States tries to determine whether any of them had contact with Osama bin Laden or his agents in the years before the raid that led to his death early Monday morning in Pakistan.

The officials provided new details of a tense discussion between Pakistani officials and an American envoy who traveled to Pakistan on Monday, as well as the growing suspicion among United States intelligence and diplomatic officials that someone in Pakistan’s secret intelligence agency knew of Bin Laden’s location, and helped shield him.

Obama administration officials have stopped short of accusing the Pakistani government — either privately or publicly — of complicity in the hiding of Bin Laden in the years after the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. One senior administration official privately acknowledged that the administration sees its relationship with Pakistan as too crucial to risk a wholesale break, even if it turned out that past or present Pakistani intelligence officials did know about Bin Laden’s whereabouts.

That's actually very remarkable. You'd only need a list of names if you were trying to cross reference them. In other words, if we know UBL was in contact with X, Y and Z, we need to know if the Pakistanis had anyone by those names on their rolls.

Potentially, that means we have the Pakis dead to rights.

I am not very good at reading , but, it seeems obvious that OBL slept comfortably all the time living in the shadow of the military. Where were his guards? Where were his weapons? Where was the fire fight? ...and he slept through it all... let alone sleeping there for 5 years?

Terrorist financiers- the SAAR network, etc- slept comfortably in Virginia, on the outskirts of Washington DC for years.

Doesn't CAIR have its headquarters inside the beltway?

Zawahiri, now al Qaeda's head honcho, visited the US, hung out in California.

Heck, we had an al Qaeda operative working as a psychologist on our own troops, right in a military hospital in Washington DC, before he opted to massacre a bunch of them in Ft Hood Tx, and he had access to the White House, apparently via conferences right under the One's nose, didn't he?

I don’t want to post it as an Article, because I am not in anyway part of the national security apparatus and never have been (except my 2 year draftee service as an E-4 back in the New Stone Age.

Supposedly, Panetta, Petraus and Gates (with Hillary) went ahead and ordered the raid on their own. It just rings true to me. And shocking. If true, rather than making Obama untouchable in 2012, the Abbottabad raid would end up making him unelectable in 2012.
