Flight was Houston to Chicago.

Wasn’t there an earlier attempt to crash a plane into the Sears Tower (with the origin being Houston?).

I could swear so... like 4, 5 or 6 years ago, maybe?

Looks like several plane incidents. Is Obama on the links golfing today?

Continental Flight No. 546 made an emergency landing in St. Louis after a tall, burly passenger reportedly tried to open a door in flight, said Sara Olkon, a former Tribune reporter. Responding to screams from a flight attendant, the man was reportedly accosted by an air marshal on board.

“It felt very inevitable,” said Olkon, who had just been reading articles in The New York Times about the death of Osama Bin Laden. “I started shaking and tears were coming out of my eyes. My heart was pounding through my chest.”

Stay calm honey. That heart of yours is more likely to leeap out of your chest than the guy being able to open that plug-type door in a pressurized airplane.

Olkon’s response makes the “tall burly passenger” description seem lacking in key details.

We were told that muslims didn’t support Osama Bin Laden’s campaign of terrorism. Yet we had to give OBL a 40-minute Islamic funeral to appease the so call moderate “arab street”. And even afterwards, OBL’s death had its mourners in the Islamic world.

Burying our heads in the sand won’t make us any safer and the war on terror did not end with the death of Osama, no matter what “Mission Accomplished - the war is over” speaches Obama and the press tried to give us last week.

Good luck doing that. To open the door you have to pull in agains the pressurization on the door. I can't remember what the differential pressure is in the thirties for an airliner, but it has to be at least 6-8 psi. 6x3 foot door times 144 square inches in a square foot times 6 psi is over 15,000 pounds.

I think it would be easier to let the person wear themselves out on the door than get in a big fight.

How did DB Cooper make his jump? Did they depressurize the cabin?

Obama Victory Tour Heads to the Golf Course

by Keith Koffler on May 7, 2011, 1:08 pm

Did you really think the president wouldn’t hit the links today? Do you think Michelle is going to let him puff his Bin Laden operation victory cigar in the White House?

President Obama is playing his usual course at Andrews Air Force Base with two of his usual foursome – White House aide Marvin Nicholson and Energy Department official David Katz – as well as guest golfer Ray LaHood, the secretary of transportation.

This is, BTW, the sixth weekend in a row Obama has played, the ninth time this year, and the 67th time Obama has been golfing as president

Actually I believe DB Cooper did have a depressurized cabin to deal with. He ordered the pilot to fly at low altitude and went out a door under the tail of the plane.

He ordered the pilots to fly at 10,000 feet.

The guy was probably lucky that there was an air marshal there to protect him.

i can’t remember the exact details, but I think he ordered the crew to fly low with the cabin depressurized.

LOL!

Maybe she was also scared of the guy busting out a passenger side window and everybody and everything getting sucked right out............

Yes, they flew at less than 10,000 ft, unpressurized. In order to make the jump more survivable, Cooper ordered that the flaps be set at 15 degrees and the landing gear not be retracted. Plus, that model of 727 had airstairs at the rear that opened outward; that feature was discontinued on later models.
