Newsweek Editor Wins 'Obamagasm' Award: Obama 'Sort of God' Monday, May 09, 2011 By Eric Scheiner
(CNSNews.com) - The Media Research Center held it’s 2011 Gala and DisHonors Awards event this past Saturday. The DisHonors awards recognizes and roasts the liberal media’s worst moments, with winners in several different categories and an overall ‘winner’ with a ‘Quote Of the Year’.
In the “Obamagasm Award” category, the winner was Newsweek Editor Evan Thomas who said, “Reagan [at the 1984 D-Day commemoration] was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is, ‘We are above that now. We're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial. We stand for something.' I mean, in a way, Obama's standing above the country, above — above the world. He's sort of God. He's going to bring all different sides together.”
Thomas made the comments while appearing on a June 5th, 2009 broadcast of MSNBC’s ‘Hardball’ program.
In the “I’m Not A Political Genius, But I Play One On TV Award” category, Actor/Director/Activist Rob Reiner’s comments on a Oct. 22nd, 2010 appearance on the ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ program took the DisHonor.
“Hitler, by the way, never got more than 33 percent of the vote ever in Germany....He wasn’t a majority guy, but he was charismatic, and they were having bad economic times — just like we are now. People were out of work, they needed jobs, and a guy came along and rallied the troops. My fear is that the Tea Party gets a charismatic leader, because all they’re selling is fear and anger and that’s all Hitler sold: ‘I’m angry and I'm frightened and you should hate that guy over there,” Reiner said during his appearance.
PBS’s Tavis Smiley won the “Tea Party From Hell Award” for a May 25th, 2010 interview he conducted with Author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, talking about radical Muslims.
Ali:“Somehow, the idea got into their minds that to kill other people is a great thing to do and that they would be rewarded in the hereafter.”
Host Tavis Smiley: “But Christians do that every single day in this country.”
Ali: “Do they blow people up every day?”
Smiley: “Yes. Oh, Christians, every day, people walk into post offices, they walk into schools, that’s what Columbine is — I could do this all day long....There are folk in the Tea Party, for example, every day who are being recently arrested for making threats against elected officials, for calling people ‘nigger’ as they walk into Capitol Hill, for spitting on people. That’s within the political — that’s within the body politic of this country.”
An April 19th, 2010 episode of ‘Countdown’ on MSNBC where Keith Olbermann named Rush Limbaugh as the “Worst Person in The World” topped the winning spot in the “Ode To Obermann” category.
“What was the more likely cause of the Oklahoma City bombing: talk radio or Bill Clinton and Janet Reno’s hands-on management of Waco, the Branch Davidian compound and maybe to a lesser extent Ruby Ridge?’ Well, obviously, the answer is talk radio, specifically Rush Limbaugh’s hate radio....Limbaugh claimed others would have blood on their hands in the event of future right wing terrorism. Frankly, Rush, you have that blood on your hands now, and you have had it for 15 years,” Olbermann said during the broadcast.

There's a long time until the election and, thanks to Obama, the economy is imploding. We'll see how that temporary bump, (if it is even accurate) holds up. It will come down to who people will believe, "news" people like Chris Mattchews, or their own wallets. The lies will only carry them so far.

Here’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately.
Rush is fond of the phrase “State Controlled Media” because for one thing it explains the built in bias and for another thing it’s used when describing (other) despotic regimes.
But here’s my question - how do we know that a more accurate phrase wouldn’t be “Media Controlled State”? I ask this question in all seriousness.
And how would we formally distinguish the two possibilities? Are we thinking about the sickness of the current situation in exactly the wrong way? Instead of the hidden puppetmasters pulling the strings of 0bama, maybe it’s the puppetmasters like Thomas who are there in plain view?
If that is indeed the case, this is not *exactly* ass kissing - it’s more a case of extolling the virtues of what you yourself created. A bit more sinister and a bit more toxic and more to the point, maybe a bit more believable that someone like Thomas would do such a thing.
