Thousands of energy-saving light bulbs recalled 1 hr 20 mins ago
WASHINGTON (Reuters) Thousands of energy-saving Telstar Products light bulbs have been voluntarily recalled for fire hazards, the government said on Tuesday.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a statement that some 317,000 bulbs can overheat.
Two incidents of fire were reported to the New York-based firm.
The CPSC urged consumers to take the bulbs back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The recalled bulbs come in both the spiral shape and the 3-U shape and in various wattages.

I just love mercury in my diet...
This headline amuses me... especially since I recall reading one about how truckers were getting into dangerous situations because their new LED-headlights weren’t generating enough heat to keep the headlights from icing up.
So....the ‘green’ lightbulbs were causing fires (which as we all know are NOT green). heh heh. Gotta love the rony.
The wife and I went through the house over the weekend and replaced every one of the energy saving bulbs we had put in. We put incandescent bulbs in to replace them. There’s just too much info that the damn things aren’t safe.
Crappy reporting. This should have included information on where these bulbs were manufactured. And I bet it wasn’t in the US.
So think how much energy is going to be wasted while these people all drive back and forth to the store to return the recalled light bulbs.
How many Congressmen does it take to screw-up a light bulb?
Lol. Green lighting fail.
same happens with LED traffic lights. when it snows they dodn’t generate enough heat to melt the snow and ice..........
They’re ALL made in CHINA!
That was my point. I guess it was too subtle for you.
Is this before or after they cause cancer? ;-)
Im shocked, shocked I tell you that the greenies have come up with an inferior bulb!
Who wouldve ever thought that a bulb that cost 30 times the price of a harmless incandescent would have to be recalled? It only has mercury in it. It only cost $2000 to clean it up if it breaks.
The econuts have not figured out that we use the technology that we use because it works, and is probably the best. When the government goes along with the enviro-nazis, it is almost always worse.
Note to the kooks who still believe in AGW: Sit down and shut-up; let the adults run things again. Let the market decide instead of the politburo.
That’s scary.
Last year we received a large box of free bulbs from our local utility. Of course, someone paid for them.
What’s a 3-U shape?
