Mitch Daniels’s Weird Marriage History Is the Only Thing Stopping Him From Running for President
The New York Magazine ^ | May 10, 2011

Many in the Republican Party are desperately hoping that Indiana governor Mitch Daniels will swoop in and save them from a field of fatally flawed or un-serious presidential candidates. And according to the Huffington Post, Daniels would like to. There's just one thing standing in his way at this point: How he and his wife are going to handle their weird marriage history. "In 1993, Cheri Daniels left her husband with their four daughters and married another man in California. She returned a few years later, reconciled with Daniels, and the two were remarried in 1997." Cheri has never spoken about why that happened, and she probably doesn't want to.

Sounds like that one’s more on her than on him.

Why does he have to explain that when Barry has never had to explain his cocaine use or released his college records?

no offense to those in gop desperate for daniel to run. Its not his marriage history that concern us, its his cowardly politics. His desire to get along with democrats, instead of fighting against their destructive policy

Why would this keep him from running? That’s stupid. And no, I am not a Daniels supporter, but unlike supporters of certain other candidates, I don’t run down all the other candidates in order to make my own candidate look better. That kind of behavior is petty and beneath the dignity of freepers.

Governor Daniels has achieved more to further the pro-life, conservative agenda than any other governor in the country. His strategy apparently works.

He should run anyway, as a democrat.

I don't get it.

What, exactly, did he do wrong?

Oh brother!

If he has the nads to accept his wife back after that, then he must have something special and I think he deserves respect.

However I’m still not sure about his guts. Does he have enough of what it takes to throw 0 out or is he faking it.

Non story. Their marriage broke up but they eventually remarried. Whose business is it now? Nobody’s.

“Cheri has never spoken about why that happened, and she probably doesn’t want to.”

And she shouldn’t have to.

Until we hear more about Barack and Michelle’s attendance at the Rev. Wright’s “church”, or a release of his transcripts..or any of the other things one would normally want, the HuffPo and other media can kiss off.

Reagan married twice, I don’t see that as a limiter in any way. I’d vote for a candidate who’s never been married for that matter.

The media must think O can beat Daniels, or they wouldn’t keep pushing him.

I find it odd that he would take her back after that, but I don't find it disqualifying. I'd prefer Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, or Jim DeMint, but I'm not sure why his wife's quirks would be disqualifying.

Mitt Romney is an entirely different case; his liberalism in general and his support for RomneyCare in particular are disqualifying, and there is no situation in which I would vote for Mitt. I'd rather have another four years of the current anti-American communist than have a real president who permitted Obama's legacy to stand.

Many in the Republican Party are desperately hoping that Indiana governor Mitch Daniels will swoop in and save them from a field of fatally flawed or un-serious presidential candidates.

In other words, the elitists are upset that their man Myth is damaged by Romneycare, so they need another wishy washy moderate. Everyone's radar should have gone up when he said social issues should be overthrown to keep this strictly a fiscal policy race. I remember hearing that type of talk once before.
