German Newscast Confuses 'Star Trek' Terrorists With Navy SEALs
Foxnews com ^ | 05/11/11 | Staff

The news just boldly went ... somewhere it probably shouldn't have gone.

A German newscaster must be wishing his colleagues would beam him up after TV channel N24 accidentally displayed the logo for a 24th century terrorist group depicted on the TV show "Star Trek" -- rather than the real world Navy SEAL team that took out Usama bin Laden.

The news team intended to show the logo for SEAL Team Six, the special ops team that ultimately killed the notorious chieftan of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization. Instead, it accidentally used a fan-made logo for the Maquis, an anti-Cardassian rebel group that originally appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, reported fan site TrekMovie.com.

And the krauts think the logo for Delta Force is the Star Wars Rebel Alliance logo.

Which is the greater travesty, what the German newscast did, or posting this thread without pic?

Unlike the Germans, I don’t think our armed forces ever used a skull for their identification...

As that well-know German, Nena, sang years ago:

Ninety-nine knights of the air
Ride super-high-tech jet fighters
Everyone’s a superhero
Everyone’s a Captain Kirk
With orders to identify
To clarify and classify
Scramble in the summer sky
As ninety-nine red balloons go by
As ninety-nine red balloons go by

an anti-Cardassian rebel group

I'd rather the Kardasshians would go away, too.

"Maquis", eh? That same phrase appears in the Red House Report:

Following this (first) meeting, a smaller one was held, presided over by Dr. Bosse of the German Armaments Ministry and attended only by representatives of Hecho, Krupp and Röchling. At this second meeting, it was stated that the Nazi Party had informed the industrialists that the war was practically lost, but that it would continue until a guarantee of the unity of Germany could be obtained. German industrialists must, it was said, through their exports increase the strength of Germany. They must also prepare themselves to finance the Nazi Party, which would be forced to go underground as Maquis (in Gebirgaverteidigungastellen gehen). …
Maybe they're letting a little more slip than intended?

I would think that the Germans would more readily identify the word “Maquis” as something related to the French Resistance.

There was a reason many Star Trek fans called Deep Space Nine = U.N. in space. What a politically correct snoozefest most of the time.

But have to admit, I would find myself watching it purely for the drool factor of Terry Farrell.

Nonsense. There are lots of US military units who use skulls on their unit patches.
