No a NOISE suppressor is used to tame noise...it does a better job on
subsonic ammo like the socom. 458 than it does on a hypersonic round like 5.56...

With all the talk of ‘gas systems’, ‘pathways for gas’, certain things 'blowing' things clear of certain other things, ‘direct gas impingement’, ‘fluted chambers’ and bypassing gas’, I was starting to wonder if the discussion had turned away from guns and towards some kind of rare and VERY unpleasant gastrointestinal disorder.

;-)

Why do I feel compelled to say “I resemble that remark...”

I meant further south.

Like, Virginia or the Carolinas, or even Georgia or Alabama.

I'm pretty sure you can own all the HK's you want in each and evry one of those states (and I'm SURE you can in Virginia).

the most infuriating thing here is “why do we (the taxpayers) have to funnel yet more money off-shore to buy something that we Americans know full well how to design and build?”

Just a guess - didn't do a search - patents? Coming up with a better solution to a known problem first?

Indiana has them, too ;)
And LIFETIME CCW “permits”. (better than nothing)

Not even.
Very little on the HK416 would qualify for a patent that would prevent competition.
The gas system is an AR180-derived system.
The lower is practically 99% AR/M-4.
The upper is pretty close to AR/M-4 pattern as well.
Uses STANAG mags, 1913 rails and accessories.

The HK416 does not address any issues that haven’t been addressed by other major manufacturers or even little guys.

Look at rifles like the MagPul/Bushmaster/Remington ACR. 100% homegrown, but not from a big defense contractor. Definitely a design worthy of competing with the HK416 or the FN SCAR. But, with no pull in Washington, they won’t get a shot at the title. Same with other AR-based gas-piston rifles out there and there are DOZENS.

Half of our Congressional seats would be vacant.

“I don’t think I have ever seen a thread on FR where so many people think they are experts but clearly don’t know what they are talking about.”

Absolutely, correct and insightful observation — Except where there is a shooting and everybody chips in with the shooter needing range time with a magical, mythical .45 from the miracle 1911 instant killer, pulverizing vaporizor using special Dagburnit dum dum bullets.

>>one doesn’t normally suppress rifle rounds......ineffective...<<

Suppressors make .50 BMG’s sound like 30-06’s. That’s ineffective????

If you’re talking 223 vs 5.56, you’re right. It’s called “leade” difference. If you look at SAAMI specs for both rounds you’ll find the dimension difference. The 5.56 also has a higher pressure on detonation.

I screwed up by not going with the mini 30.

Same as it ever was.

Other items presented, so it is no loss in the end.

I got a few sks para models for under a hundred dollars each, brand new in the box. One or so of them has a bayonet attachment that will yield me a decade in federal prison... Clinton era things.... Be an amazing thing to even find one of them today.

Pop a fly off a cows ear with the sks at a hundred yards. My five hundred dollar mini 14 would kill the cow. Damn thing stovepipes every dozen shots or so too. I do not trust the unit once it heats up. Not a clue where that is today, I think my brother took it in the 90's.

Strange thing to trust a communist rifle and round... I believe the Winchester AE94 in 3030 with a brush barrel is one of the most reliable and functional firearms ever manufactured. I had one or two, or three, but traded them all for some other thing. Godspeed

RifleShooter had a good article on the problems and how Ruger fixed them with the 580-series.

I can not even cut and paste on this unit.

Some things come down to necessity and desired ability to project into a reality.

None of these things apply to my present situation.

I am typing in the dark with a dumb dog licking the screen, another one humping my wife's leg, and a fresh feral cat we are socializing, trying to rub her puss in my face.

Rearrange some of those verbs and nouns and you’ll have a pretty good night!
