As state lawmakers hem and haw over Gov. Cuomo's property-tax cap, a new poll last week showed that more than one of every four New Yorkers is headed for the exits.
Indeed, more than one in three New Yorkers under the age of 30, some 36 percent, want out, the survey by the exemplary NY1/YNN-Marist pollsters found.
"Unchecked," says Marist's Lee Miringoff, "this threatens to drain the state of the next generation."
Overstatement? Detroit lost a quarter of its population between 2000 and 2011; absolutely, it could happen here.
Indeed, Buffalo already lost 11 percent over the past decade. Overall, the state's population grew slower than all but three other states.

“But generally speaking I find New Yorkers to be quite rude.”
Me, too. Where I came from, we’d implement our attitude adjustment program on New York liberals by throwing them down mineshafts to live with blind rats. After they got more polite, we’d haul them back out. The Chicago mutts got the same treatment.
“What is your take on shrimp grits?”
On sale at $5.99 a lb. I take shrimp and grits and fry ‘em up in my yankee cast iron skillet. At $12.99 a lb. they stay in the grocer’s freezer and I buy cheap chicken wings and rice. Then I cook up yankee baked chicken, a mess o’ collards and New Orleans jambalaya.
What’s your take on perogies?
Come on down to the Missouri Ozarks. Low taxes, turkey, deer, great fishing, water aplenty. We’ll teach you how to speak the local dialect.
: )
Excuse my ignorance, but I am unfamiliar with the term. It sounds ethnic. Cajun?
Pierogies are a northern dish. Nearly impossible to find in the south, but I intend to change that...
It’s similar in appearance to a Cornish pasty, but it’s not a pasty. You make a dough, fill it with a mix of mashed potatoes, onions and olives, fold it up, boil and then fry or bake it. Ideal with baked ham or kielbasa.

That fact seems to escape those who wish to vilify us conservative NY Staters....
But facts never stopped anyone with an agenda.
They’re still fighting the Civil War down there. Lots fo resentment that they lost.
I visited my sister in SC a couple years back and it was plenty obvious then.
I have a client who pays 60k a year in Scarsdale for a decent house, nothing too extravagant though.
My GF parents pay 30k in New Rochelle.
Its totally nuts.
Thanks friend, but we have lots of genes and quite a few petes, joes and toms to boot.
Reminds me of the story about the 4 college girls on a road trip:
One was from Idaho.
One was from Nebraska.
One was from North Carolina.
One was from New York.
They're driving off on this long road trip and a few hours along the girl from Idaho rolls down her window, reaches into her big purse and starts chucking potatoes out the window. The other girls say, "Girl, what are you doing?"
She replies, "Well, where I come from, we've got so many of these durn things, I just get sick of lookin' at 'em!"
Her friends reply, "OK then...."
They drive a littler further, and the girl from from Nebraska now rolls down her window, reaches into her big purse and starts chucking ears of corn out the window. The other girls say, "Girl, what are you doing?"
She replies, "Well, where I come from, we've got so many of these durn things, I just get sick of lookin' at 'em!"
Her friends reply, "OK then...."
Then they drive a littler further, and SUDDENLY the girl from North Carolina, rolls down her window, GRABS THE GIRL FROM NEW YORK, AND TRIES TO CHUCK HER OUT THE WINDOW.....
