As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought. Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry's behalf. A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation's longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race -- and with Newt Gingrich's early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup -- there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill. According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation's first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: "Keep your powder dry." Perry's aides have long made it clear that the tough-talking Texan, who succeeded George W. Bush in Austin in 2000, would not seriously entertain the idea of mounting a White House run before the state's legislative session finishes at the end of this month. That date is now less than two weeks away, and the 2012 presidential field remains fluid.

Compared to those who have declared so far, Perry is good.
Are you suggesting that these Texans would vote for Obama instead of Perry?
Why do so many people on this site seem to think that Sarah Palin would accept the second spot on the ticket two elections running? Not gonna happen.
For whatever it is worth, the adds against Perry, if he were to run, will be the current Texas financial/budget mess ($25+ billion deficit next two years) and the education cuts. He will be able to talk his way out of some of it, but it will be hard to hear. He has a lot of work to do to become a viable candidate. As a Texan, I hope he stays out of the national race, not out of fear of losing him hear, but as to how he would perform as a president.
Rick Perry’s been a good governor of Texas for the most part, but I am not ready for him to be in EITHER spot. I’m with you on Sarah....and possibly YOUR very intelligent, outspoken and fervent conservative Michele Bachmann! :)
Just sayin.........
Yes, but that was rescinded. There were alleged ties between Perry and Merck, and a lot of people protested it; so the mandatory shots are not happening.
It is typical of your megalomania to appropriate the words of a true Master.
I could vote for Rick. Like W, he’s made some whoppers of blunders, and he isn’t as conservative as I’d like, but on the whole he’s done a pretty good job. Four years ago, I was like, no way, but now I feel differently.
Yet he hauls in 10 million dollars in 8 hours. The only problem Mitt has is that Heavenly Father hasn't seen fit to make the Mormon Missionaries effective enough to make enough Mormons to put him over the top in the race.
Just kidding. I suddenly had a flashback and remember W Bush getting a huge cash infusion early in the race, and the endorsement of lots of checked pants republican establishment types.
Amazing you should say that in defense of a former candidate, Rudy Giuliani, who thinks it’s fine to kill babies and embrace homosexual behavior.
My quote was fully true and in context, in response to your post.
By the way, He's not "a" true Master. He is the THE Master.
How about this: If Obama had tried to ram socialist medicine down our throats, and the firestorm of protests had made him change his mind about it and rescind it; how would you feel about that? At least Perry knew when to back off.
Really? Glad I gave you the opportunity to be right about something.
Rudy would have been an infinitely better president that the turd you helped elect. And a much better candidate than McCain. He would have won and our nation would be far better off. Any fool can see that.
I didn’t help elect McCain. It was folks like yourself who have no principles who did that.
You can be proud of you assistance to Urkel but try and hide it. You did just what you intended. Many people supporting Rudy told you that it was him or McCain so you can’t claim you were not warned. But nooo you hads’t to have your Hunter then your Keyes then your Huckabee then Uncle Fred all designed to sabotage real leaders.
My chief principle is to oppose fools who reach for the sky when they can’t even put their hat on.
You’re a pro-abort, pro-homosexual Giuliani supporter. You have no principles. Who do you think you’re kidding?
You are full of crap and would not recognize a principle if it bit you in the ass. Fanaticism is not a principle nor is blind stupidity.
