Rick Perry Presidential Push Quietly Gains Steam
RCP ^

Posted on 05/17/2011 12:58:32 PM PDT by Retired Greyhound

As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought. Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry's behalf. A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation's longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race -- and with Newt Gingrich's early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup -- there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill. According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation's first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: "Keep your powder dry." Perry's aides have long made it clear that the tough-talking Texan, who succeeded George W. Bush in Austin in 2000, would not seriously entertain the idea of mounting a White House run before the state's legislative session finishes at the end of this month. That date is now less than two weeks away, and the 2012 presidential field remains fluid.

Adios Mofo...

He's good on some issues, soft on others, and horrible on things like the Trans-Texas Corridor.

Perry/Palin, I’ve been saying it for a very long time.
Sarah doesn’t announce but rather endorses Perry once he gets in.

Then Perry wins nomination and picks Sarah as VP or some high-level cabinet position later.

That should make some heads explode!
...........................................................

I have to say, as an ardent Palin supporter your scenario seems very likely to me. Something tells me her “waiting for the right candidate” is about Perry.

I’m not interested in anybody who’s “waiting to be summoned into the race.” By and large, I like Perry, but he’s gotta have Colin Powell’s “fire in the belly” (which Powell admitted he didn’t have) in order to be a good candidate, IMHO.

Here comes the Perry/Palin ticket Must be what she is waiting on.

I doubt that very much. I think she will endorse Perry if he runs, giving him a powerful boost, as they have been friends and political soulmates since long before anyone ever heard of her in the lower 48. I don;t think she wants to be second fiddle again.

She has her eyes on the top prize, and I think she will get there, but to do so she will need to overcome her (perceived) lack of experience and persistence. I see her as Energy Secretary for Perry, perhaps followed by a term or two in the Senate, and then a successful run at the Presidency .

Sarah is a young woman still, and has a good twenty-five years of political viability left. With careful and diligent service she will be able to overcome her current negatives, and when the time is right she will become our first woman President with relative ease.

I don't believe another run at the Vice Presidency is the way to go, though, and I will never forgive McCain for pulling her up to the big leagues too soon.

Just say no to Gov. Goodhair Perry.

The ONLY reason he’s still governor is because we conservative Texans had no one else to vote for. Perry is a RINO through and through. He’ll back whichever project gets him the most air time and kickbacks.

I’d vote for him.

You' re from Florida. Look at how many Texans on this thread would not vote for him and you might reconsider that statement.

Perry’s got some campaigning to do-—few people outside of Texas know anything about him. So why would he think he can win any national office?

he seems to be free of RINO Disease

Geez, another out of stater who has no clue. Gov. Goodhair is the poster child of the RINOs.

“The mandating girl shots (ovarian cancer) kinda gets my goat a bit.”
I see why, but reasonable minds can differ in this regard.

I never really thought of liberals and feminists having reasonable minds. Because that whole Gardasil debacle was completely based on liberal feministic agenda.

Herman Cain has a lot more going for him than I originally thought. He’ll never be Pres, but Perry/Cain - or Daniels /Cain - or Romney/Cain - maybe a decent ticket.

Cheer up. Maybe it will be Palin/Perry.

It's been my prediction all along that should Palin run and get the nomination, she will select Perry as her running mate. I don't see it the other way around.

RINO, SHMINO. If he's better than Obama, and can beat Obama in an election, I don't care if he literally has a horn growing out of his forehead.

(Okay, I can't back that up. But is he really that bad? I'm another out of stater, I know nothing about Perry. Any salvageable good points?)

Being a Texan, I wouldn’t vote for him. At least not in the primaries. And, I sure don’t want to be in the “hold my nose” position that I was in during the ‘08 election.

No more f***ing RINOs!
