Chinese to view sensitive U.S. sites

China's top military leader and a group of officers are set to visit sensitive U.S. military bases this week, in exchanges that defense and congressional officials say run counter to a 2000 law designed to limit such exchanges from bolstering Beijing's arms buildup.

Chinese Gen. Chen Bingde, the military chief of staff, arrived in Washington on Monday for the first high-level military exchange since Beijing cut off military ties early last year to protest U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

One source of concern, according to defense officials, is Gen. Chen's planned visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where the military conducts regular combat exercises, including one with cyberwarfare elements known as "Red Flag."

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on investigations, said visits like those by Gen. Chen violate the limits set by Congress in a 2000 defense authorization law when they involve advanced U.S. weapons or military activities.

I really doubt they will get to view anything they shouldn’t view.

i’m guessing you weren’t paying attention in the 90s.

the progressives in the 90s took china from our 1950s nuke tech to our latest and greatest. they also got out top military comms, laser, and guidance to name a few others.

anger start to bubble up right here.

there was a time we’d kill people for less.

and have.

This is just one more example illustrating America's divided and incongruent policy towards the Chinese. The panda huggers certainly aren't limited to the Democratic party either.

Congressman Rohrabacher is exactly correct when he says "The Beijing dictatorship will only see such gestures as signs of an appeasement policy by the Obama administration."

It isn’t just the “progressives” that are selling us out to the Chinese. Once Clinton opened the door by extending permanent MFN status to the Chinese, plenty of so called Republicans immediately proceeded to get into bed with the Chicoms using the disingenuous term “free trade” to justify their treason. Anything to make a buck, right? So, if we ever start handing out blindfolds and cigarettes for treason, I want their balls to the wall too.

There's a reason those bases are off-limits, with a law designed to make and keep them that way. Here's the way espionage works: someone with the right intelligence training can gather a lot of previously unknown (to his side) information, when given a tour of a sensitive area. When this information is sifted and compared to known set of parameters or variables, a reasonable hypothesis about the subject matter can be developed. Answers are easier to deduce. Over time, and with more intel, patterns emerge.

Don’t forget: These things are always a two way street. Everything is reciprocal. Transparency has to complement both the demander and the demanded. This exchange, if I may say so, have the likelihood of favoring and benefiting Washington more than it does Beijing because, how much is there for Beijing to hide anyway? Not much. Washington hence gets to see the inside scope of what makes Beijing tick while this Bingde guy gets to see only what Washington wants for him to see. The rest is still closed to him. In the end, it’s America that comes out the winning team.
