SF Circumcision Ban To Appear On November Ballot
KTVU ^ | 5/18/11 | staff

SAN FRANCISCO -- In November, San Francisco voters will be asked to weigh in on what was until now a private family matter: male circumcision.

City elections officials confirmed Wednesday that an initiative that would ban the circumcision of males younger than 18 in San Francisco has received enough signatures to appear on the ballot. The practice would become a misdemeanor.

So religiously observant Jewish families will have it done outside of San Francisco, as well as those who believe it better for health reasons.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . .

The word Bris means covenant; the word Milah, to cut. Ritual circumcision is the covenant G-d has established with the Jewish people through the commandment of circumcision.

The big government libs in SF have no authority to regulate this personal choice. What happened to the "right to privacy" that they created, or is it like all other lib creations and only applies selectively when the arbiters of political correctness decide to play that card?

...what was until now a private family matter: male circumcision.

Not necessarily. I have known two doctors that are adamantly against it and will counsel young parents accordingly and even more doctors that are for it and will counsel young parents accordingly, even more aggressively, which very effectively removes it from the "private family matter" arena.

Personally, I think it should be an individual decision, and since the poor kid is too young to make the decision, then, well, they'll just have to wait until he's old enough before they go removing a very sensitive portion of his anatomy.

I'm not cut. Don't want to be cut. See no reason to be cut and have never had a hygiene problem, which is the first thing most advocates throw out there. My mama and daddy taught me how to use a wash cloth and soap and none of my wives have died from cervical cancer because I wasn't circumcised, nor any of my mistresses. (All "0" of them.)

But...to each his own.

(Yes, there is a certain amount of sarcasm there, but I see no good reason to perform a circumcision on a child that has no idea as to why it was done and for which there is no good reason given.)

It's OK to dismember your babies down at the Planned Murderhood mill up until he actually makes it to birth, but then right after that it's a crime to do minr surgery that has known health benefits.

Everything in San Francisco makes so much sense.

So, killing an unborn baby is OK.
Circumcising him a week or two later after he is born is a crime?

What is the male homosexual view of circumcision? That could decide this election?

I’m only half joking here. The gay vote is a big bloc in SF, and, male homosexuals take a major interest in anything related to the male body. A big voter turnout combined with a “gay party line” on the issue could be decisive when the voters vote.

Why attack circumcision?
Will the prepuce Nazi ban pierced ears or pierced tongues?
Could this ban having anything to do with the hatred that
the leftists, socialist, commies have towards God?
Why don’t they ban anal intercourse in San Francisco?
That practice is much more nasty and deadly than snipping
off loose skin.
God will deal with these people in due time and that
will be worth seeing! I’ve got ring side seats!

I’m expecting the lawsuit to start the instant the law passes. Temple Emanu-El on Arguello in SF, where Dianne Feinstein worships (and lives next to), is where many wealthy SF Jews have their kids circumcised and I seriously doubt they’ll end the practice just to please the mangy secularists.

“Everything in San Francisco makes so much sense.”

To the leftists, you have a right to privacy and “choice” in every conceivable bodily-related act until a child is born. After that... the kid fully belongs to the government.

while only about 30% of males in the world are circumcised, almost 80% of U.S boys are....totally unacceptable surgery and many do it only to have Jr. look like daddy. Hygene has nothing in the world to do with it, if you are clean, you are clean, if you’re dirty, you’re dirty....no difference at all. Genital mutilation should be illegal for both sexes until they, at a legal age, comply for religious or other reason

Outrageous! If they have the money to pay for this ballot measure than its proof these fools have way too much access to way too much money.

If this one passes, then they ought to try banning baptism next, since babies are too young to make a decision about that too. Same foolish logic.

If the US Government tried to impose a requirement like this on the State of California, the brain trust in Baghdad on the Bay would be howling so loud you would be able to hear them around the globe. This demonstrates how close to Stalinism Liberalism really is.

Interesting you should mention that in the context of a thread about an example of left-wing anti-Semitism.

I think unborn children play the same role in the ideology of the turn-of-the-21st-century American left that Jews played in the ideology of the Nazis. They are seen as untermenschen who can be killed out of hand, and as a source of great wealth to be plundered (”hey, let’s fund another government program by robbing those who haven’t been born yet: they can’t complain!”).

Why don’t you think its a valid reason so that jr. can look like daddy? Lots of people raise their children in ways that they were raised. tradition, family morals. etc...

personally, as a woman, I would never sleep with anyone who wasn’t circumsized. I don’t care for the looks of it at all. thats just my opinion.

Exactly!

Sweden, where hardly any male is circumcised, has lower rates of STD occurrence than, say, Pakistan, where practically every male is circumcised.

The “hygiene” excuse is bogus, and the only reason hospitals and charlatans therein advocate it is because of the extra income it brings in.

The foreskin is extremely densely innervated and folds over to form the sensory input for the shaft of the penis during intercourse, besides protecting the glans when not in use. It’s not for no reason that such a functional tissue exists on the penis. No male deserves to be deprived of this natural function against his will - through the practice of a disgusting barbarism that has no place in today’s times.

Amen. Whether you believe in creation, intelligent design, or evolution, the foreskin is there for a reason. We don’t go around removing any other normal, functional organs or tissues just because decades later and very rarely they might become diseased. Male circumcision is really quite similar to female genital mutilation. The tissue involved are homologous in both sexes. In both cases, everything is removed which some primitive tribesmen could remove without preventing reproduction. The tissue which is removed is, in the adult, the size of a playing card; it is not “a little snip” of “excess skin.”

It’s a fundamental issue of individual human rights. No one owns your body but you. No, not your parents, not the medical establishment either.

That "right to privacy" you talk about would apply to the child, not to the parent.

They have every authority to regulate it.

Its routine performance is medically unnecessary. It does harm to the patient, not to preserve and protect a life but for its own ends.

Parents need to get in through their skulls a child is a separate and distinct human being, not a piece of personal property. If you condone a child's genital mutilation you condone abortion.

Both presuppose a parental right to maim one's own child. One fatally, the other causes permanent damage to a private part fully formed and functionally normal.

Whether circumcision is medically necessary is entirely irrelevant. I have read the literature, in detail, and there are both significant long-term benefits and mild short-term risks to the procedure. As for the authority to regulate the decision, Jews have a G-d-given human right to make that choice, and the First Amendment makes that human right an enforceable legal right. Anyone who wants to interfere in that decision will lose in any court governed by the supreme law of the land and should lose in any court (Note: the 9th Circuit does not count as a court governed by the Constitution and does not to any sensible person count as a court at all).
