Amazing photos! Mississippi residents build homemade dams to protect homes

We've all undertaken home improvements but these residents in flood-stricken Mississippi have had to embark on major construction projects just to protect their houses and livelihoods.

These homes in Vicksburg are all situated along the Yazoo River, a tributary of the overflowing Mississippi River, and their owners have surrounded themselves with tons of earth and sand.

With questions over whether the main levees that protect the area from floods would hold, these farmers took no chances and have so far saved their homes and crops from destruction.

One thing I love about having a Democrat in the White House, is that nostalgic notion that natural disasters are actually caused by nature.

Hopefully, though, we'll soon return to the concept that the president causes natural disasters.

That was one of the few things I really liked about GWB. He had a talent for unleashing the worst natural disasters in heavily democratic voting areas.

You must be from the government and have to help. /s

One thing I've learned over the years, if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Helps if you own a construction company though.

“Hopefully, though, we’ll soon return to the concept that the president causes natural disasters.”

And ignores the poor hapless victims - especially if they are “Holder’s people”.

these people are so SILENT when it comes to Rat administrations... not a word when the common people are ignored during the zero reign....

Actually, those levees look as if they will hold long enough for the water to retreat.

Two thoughts:

1. They sure know how to keep out illegals - a giant mote with alligators.

2. They didn’t have to wait for the government to come to their rescue.

Levees will continue to work nicely even when saturated. The thing you have to watch for is a boat bumping a levee hard inorder to brek it when saturated or a large wake.

After some experiences in 1993 floods in Missouri, we post farmers on levees with scoped .30-06s in order to keep boaters from breaking the levees. One guy did it in 1993 and flooded 40,000 acres in Illinois and he is now in the state pen and will never see the sunlight except over a guard tower.

The armed people on the levees are given the authority to shoot to kill and they will. This is very serious stuff.

#28 has the better solution: just pile the dirt up right around the house itself. More dirt, smaller area, deeper, no breach risk.

Now the government needs to declare all that area “Wetlands” and force the owners out permanently! Sarc/off

I hope you’re right..I wish those people all the luck. It’s just that when you build one so quickly, it’s really hard to compact the dirt enough that it holds up. <>
I understand what you’re saying about boats damaging the levees ( that’s why the stopped/slowed barge traffic for some time on the Mississippi..but a levee, over the years, well it hardens...a new one isn’t quite the same...

It was Rove’s weather machine and since he is a RINO I would expect he is doing this to help Obama and the RATS.

LOL. You are right, the snakes will be swarming to these dry pockets. And they have cottonmouths down there in Mississippi.
