'Limited' US Role in Libya Means No Need to Get Congressional Authorization
ABC News ^ | May 20, 2011 | Jack Trapper

In an effort to satisfy those arguing he needs to seek congressional authorization to continue US military activity in accordance with the War Powers Resolution, President Obama wrote a letter to congressional leaders this afternoon suggesting that the role is now so “limited” he does not need to seek congressional approval.

“Since April 4,” the president wrote, “U.S. participation has consisted of: (1) non-kinetic support to the NATO-led operation, including intelligence, logistical support, and search and rescue assistance; (2) aircraft that have assisted in the suppression and destruction of air defenses in support of the no-fly zone; and (3) since April 23, precision strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles against a limited set of clearly defined targets in support of the NATO-led coalition's efforts.”

A senior administration official told ABC News that the letter is intended to describe “a narrow US effort that is intermittent and principally an effort to support to support the ongoing NATO-led and UN-authorized civilian support mission and no fly zone.”

“The US role is one of support,” the official said, “and the kinetic pieces of that are intermittent.”

“So, who is going to cast the stone that shatters his imperial feet made of clay mingled with iron?”
****

Everyone knows he’s a fraud. Those who support him now do so in order to maintain/acquire power or because they refuse to admit that they were duped into voting for him in the first place.

You are the only two people I noticed who mentioned Vietnam, which surprises me. Can you imagine if LBJ or Nixon had said, "U.S. participation has consisted of: (1) non-kinetic support to the SVA-led operation, including intelligence, logistical support, and search and rescue assistance; (2) aircraft that have assisted in the suppression and destruction of air defenses in support of the no-fly zone; and (3) against a limited set of clearly defined targets in support of the SVA-led efforts . . . intermittent and principally an effort to support to support the ongoing SVA-led mission and no fly zone.”

With only vary small changes (Vietnam was non-NATO) and didn't use UAVs), Libya is a close parallel to the far left's least favorite government action, yet they are very cautious in criticizing the anit-American communist who initiated this third war.

and my daughter just might be a little bit pregnant.

this president is above the law and our congress must do something about it now. NOW.

or we are done.

the precedents will be set for: use of kinetic military force where protection of people is subjective... for however long it takes... for use on any population anywhere... even domestically... denying sustenance to individuals because it is not cruel but euphoric... private property is not...

i’m too depressed to continue...

Agreed - but ain't got the votes.

So, a pragmatic approach executed in parallel (i.e., not sequentially):

(A) Put so much money/energy into the 2012 House and Senate races such that more "young Turks" replace all known RINOs and lame dim-0-crats - and the Congress becomes veto-proof. Now withhold funding and quickly start cutting budgets.

(B) Oversight becomes strictly adversarial - the Fed, the DoJ, ...

(C) War Powers Act is repealed ...

(D) Troops are brought home (e.g., Balkans, ...) and honored.

(E) Foreign Aid is cut ...

(F) Consitutional amendment for Ferderal Term Limits, including the Supreme Court. ...

Yea, I wish the GOP could get its act together. With our Supreme Court allowing the shredding of our Constitution things look bleak. I don’t even hold out much hope for 2012. While the Democrats will be free to sling mud and criticize the Republican candidate the Republican candidate will have to be extremely polite or be accused of racism. That alone will give Democrats a big advantage.

The GOP in the US COngress support Obama, support his treason, support his attack on Israel, support his help of al Qaeda and Ikhwan. The GOP by their silence is complicit. Every single one.

Oh please ... I am so sick and tired of opinions complaining about the GOP; it is a sign of impotent weakness to ignore the abusing party and try to attack the only other party with a chance instead.

For the record, this problem lies solely at the feet of the Democrat Party and all those other independents and RINOs(and I mean it in the sense of those who purport to be conservative or republican and do not vote for the Republican in a head to head race with a democrat) who did not vote for McCain/Palin and thus allowed this Obama regime.

And by the way let's especially blame Virginia, Nevada, North Carolina, Indiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, and Florida for betraying America.

When you are a nuclear power, everything short of mushroom clouds is considered “limited”.

so he has appointed himself dictator now , ripped up the constitution and can just do what ever the hell he wants.

This is why the paid off Soros media are the biggest enemy to this country.

They know damn well this is wrong but will cover for obama because they are told to, they are paid off and are biased and couldn’t give a crap about laws when their own is in power

why should the MSM stop covering for obama since they’re getting paid off by Soros, being told what to cover and agree with obama after they voted for him.

Anyone thinking we have a free and fair press needs to have their head looked at.

What pisses me off as well is how the coward in the GOP stay silent about the MSM and never call these biased ass holes out.

We need to be beating him like a drum. Never said sequentially. Doesn’t matter if we have the votes ... does the Republican Party have the cajones to stand against this ‘sophomoric nation-destroying ‘ presidency.

Congress needs to step up and file bill after bill ... pass or not. Continually beating the discontent that is felt regarding his policies. Congress men/women and Senators need to speak clearly with one voice and work to gain similar thinkers across the aisle ... and there are a few.

The candidates need to step up to the plate and start hamming him in the road to the election. Unrelentingly hammering whether in a debate or in a press conference or where ever. Laying out solid alternatives ... not sound-bites like the Dems/President on what the ‘plan’ is.

The ‘power of the purse’ is one of the keys in confrontation at this time ... and we need a Congress not hesitant to use it. The ‘power of the purse’ can cut Presidents off at the knees, if Congress used it. It’s called ‘balance of powers’. Balance the President right out of the ‘park’.

However we may have a Congress with a majority of placaters in it, the go along to get along group that talk big during elections and goes back to their old ways, time after time.

Oh, you mean like have the LSM admit they are in the tank for Obozo or they will be denied access to the Won? Cold day in Osama's new home when that happens. The good thing about the new MSM, is that we are getting the word out to more and more every week about the LIES, misinformation, and Propaganda being spewed by the state run LSM.

“Millions of nitwits and the nitwits in the electoral college put him there.”

Millions of brainwashed blacks and guilt ridden caucasians put him there as well. I wish people would take emotion and touchy feely stuff out of their decision making. If all that “yes we can” bullshit was out people would be forced to see him for what he is. A man who wants the most stressfull powerful position in the world without ever A. running a business (even a small business like a lemonade stand) B. governing (not even small city or town) and finally C. leading troops or being in the military at all.

I actually think I’m more qualified than Obama....lol. I was in the army and lead troops. Hey...thats more than him. I also ran a small little business for awhile....still more than him....
Ok ok...he’s got me on the whole community organizing thing.....lol
