Sounds like mom and/or the kid are in the clear.
“Liberals will be slobbering over justice for thiefs.”
Only if the thief is a minority.
That was my thinking too. Seems extreme to me.

Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you.
Good old fashioned American wild west justice.
Horse stealin’ got ya shot.
The perp got what he deserved. When there are consequences for your actions, crime goes down.
If he was armed and threatened the family - different story.
If he was just making off with property and they shot him in the back - not justified lethal force, imho.
Yup. Read your tagline.
Horse stealing meant death to the person left on foot in the wilderness. Hence the extremne penalty
This was a jet ski! I bet the cops would have been on him within 10 minutes of a phone call.
But hey go for it sparky, teach your kid if someone takes his sand bucket, use deadly force in defense.
evil is as evil does.
Sometimes good men call 911 instead of shooting a property thief.
The taxpayers are indebted to this lawyer and his wife. One less criminal, one less tax-eater.
Based on things, it seems this family either lives in a bad neighborhood, or needs to organize an armed crime watch.
First time they were lucky. Second time they were armed. This is fair warning that they had better do *something*, because even guns can offer only so much protection. The odds were *way* too even if the perp was armed as well. Even is bad.
If this homeowner is obliged to let you determine how he may defend his property then it is no longer his property, it’s yours.
Police are still unsure about who fatally shot the suspect: Davis' wife or his son. However, Florida's self-defense laws state that if a homeowner has a legitimate fear for his or her safety, he or she can use lethal force to protect life and property.
Meanwhile, neighbors in the area are shaken up by the ordeal. "I feel bad for them as a neighbor. I just, my heart goes out, because I have kids," said neighbor Juliet Suman.
Another neighbor said, "I'm glad it happened in the middle of the day. This is still just all sinking in."
Back in 2009, an armed robber targeted the Davis family. Since then, the family has been living in fear. According to published reports, the attorney said he installed surveillance cameras and panic buttons in his home.
Nowadays they are referred to by reporters as "aspiring graphic artists".
My thoughts too. It’s just a toy for heaven sake.
The 911 call should have went like this:Hey I just shot someone stealing my property and making threats in my back yard ,Reply, we will send the coroner in the morning to retrieve the scumbags body,Nice work!
(shrug) Who cares?
It sure is "authorized" on my property.
There's only so much Crockett can do. /sarc.
