President Barack Obamas critics who liken him to the feckless Jimmy Carter have it all wrong. The Obama White House is engaged in a campaign to override and overrun Congress with executive power the likes of which havent been seen since President Richard Nixon.
The Obama administration is using the Labor Department to ram through something like Card Check (repeatedly failed to pass the Senate), the Environmental Protection Agency to impose something like Kyoto Treaty protocols (voted down by the Senate 95-0), the NLRB shutting down Boeings $2 billion Dreamliner factory in South Carolina and other initiatives, many of dubious constitutionality. Its a lengthening list. My fellow columnist Charles Kadlec reviews a choice few executive actions this week here at Forbes.com. Dont miss it!
Alarm bells really began sounding when the New York Times reported that the IRS is looking into reversing a 30-year-old policy to apply a gift tax to donors to social welfare organizations. There is almost no chance that this tax came from career staff alone.

Wow they are going down to the gutter. He could be compared to Carter which would be horrible or he could be compared to Nixon which is horrible. Bottom line all three of them were a disgrace to the United States.
Actually, Obama combines the worst character traits of both Nixon and Carter.
I’ve been telling people that Obama is a combination of the worst characteristics of Nixon and Carter.
Kevi, Obama is a Jimmy Carter not a Nixon. Obama knows nothing, does nothing, except, like Carter, deliberately raise the price of gas.
Nonsense. Unlike Emperor Zero, President Nixon CARED about his country.
Obama is the creation of 100 years of bad government, the hippy movement, and socialists and Radical muslims. He’ll do whatever is needed to get whatever he wants to destroy the country and grow his government. In the end he has elements of Franklin Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, Arafat, Lyndon Johnson, and others. All bad qualities.
Obama’s similarities to Carter are in the areas of weak, incoherent foreign policy & ignorance of what makes an economy grow & produce jobs, without inflation. Both think more of themselves than the rest of America. And neither can tell right from wrong. Beyond that, nobody is saying they are twins.
Obama's more a twisted and resentful Nixon and less the natural winner that Kennedy made himself out to be.
But he's still very much a Jimmy Carter.
Nixon loved America, and he stood up for Israel when it counted. He also stepped down when it was best for the country.
The only politician you can compare Obama to is Vidkun Quisling, although Quisling was a weak man who partly bent in order to save his people. Obama has more of a spot of Hitler in the raw.
Unlike Bar-aaack, Nixon was a working president - to the chagrin of many because he supported a lot of liberal/progressive programs, and expanded government: EPA, OSHA. Yet I've always found him to be an interesting character. As another FReeper wrote, "Nixon loved America and supported Israel."
The Obama to Carter comparison is a slam-dunk. They both will be remembered as disastrous one-termers, with hugely overrated intellects - and egos to match. Once Obama is out of the WH, we can look forward to another activist former POTUS.
Where are the parallels to cramming the Health Insurance Bill down our throats when the majority of the people didn’t want it? Where are the parallels to giving the Federal Government a Trillion dollar slush fund to use for the re-election campaign of the man who designated it? Where are the parallels to forcing tax payers to fund the abortions of people who behaved badly and don’t want to pay the price. A lot of vote buying ont the backs of the middle class tax payers evident here. Hope people are paying attention as they are getting effectively poorer at the hands of the ‘ruling party’
