Military chaplains seek protection for troops who share beliefs on gay service members
WaPo ^ | 5/24/11

Military chaplains are concerned troops could be punished for expressing objections to homosexuality once the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy is lifted.

Leaders of 21 religious groups that provide chaplains to the U.S. military on Monday sent a letter to the chiefs of chaplains of the Navy, Army, and Air Force. They want Congress or the Pentagon to guarantee troops won’t be punished if they openly discuss their objections to homosexuality.

“This is already an assault and a challenge on individual conscience and some soldiers may think it’s forcing them to abandon their religious beliefs or being marginalized for holding to those beliefs,” said Douglas E. Lee, a retired Army brigadier general and chaplain, whose signature was the first on the letter.

Chaplains who preach at base chapels that homosexuality is a sin will still be entitled to express their beliefs during worship after the military’s adopts its new policy allowing openly gay troops, according to training materials given to Marines.

But the organizations say it is not enough to state that service members and chaplains remain free to exercise their faith in chapel services.

“Service members should know that chaplains’ ministry and their own rights of conscience remain protected everywhere military necessity has placed them,” the letter states.

Officials for the Navy, Army and Air Force did not immediately respond to calls and e-mails from the AP seeking comment.

Unfortunately, in the Brave New World, you must keep all objections strictly to yourself. You dare not even tell your wife/husband and/or children for fear they will give you up to the social engineers.

Don’t know if you have a “chaplains” ping list, but this might be appropriate if you do.

It’s almost as if some want to demoralize our military.

Imagine that!

DemonRATs want to destroy America, Americanism, and any notion that there is such a thing as “right and wrong” or absolute truth.

These discussions are pretty sure to get violent somewhere down the line.

Homosexuals might find themselves with a blanket over their heads.

Or has the old military tradition of a blanket party now gone out of style.

Obama’s Rules of Engagement In Afghanistan Will Ensure Our Failure

This is pretty demoralizing, too.

Troops’
You will accept homos and like it.
If you ever want to advance in rank you WILL get with the program or get left behind.
If you make ANY comment against homos it will be used against you.

You're being too kind. Actually, you must affirm objectionable behavior in this Brave New World or risk your career, or worse.

I just completed the military’s mandatory DADT repeal training. One enlisted member expressed reservations about sharing quarters with openly gay members. One of the powers that be was none too kind about it using the “equate being a homo with being black” logical fallacy.

Who ever said that is doomed to hell. God will not hold it against someone being black. He WILL hold it against a homosexual. Your skin color is not a sin. Homosexuals ARE! Plain and simple as that. Don’t believe at your own peril. Also, simple as that!

That’s disgusting! We’re going to reduce our military to the level of the Dutch military—not only in social practices, but in every way, including fighting ability!!!!

That’s just exactly what muslims like obama and phony “peaceniks” like Code Pink want!!!!

And soon Orthodox Christians and others who oppose homosexuality won’t be allowed to serve in the military at all.

In only a few days, it will be June, which the powers that be have designated as “gay pride month”. There will be those exhibitionist “gay” parades, right around Holy Penetecost. And we will all allow the vile parades to go on, with not even a bleat of objection.

The horrible EU and other New World Order organizations forced Serbia to hold such a parade in Belgrade, in order to “qualify” for EU membership. Now brave Orthodox heroes who tried to disrupt the parade sit in prison. They’re using the “gays” to destroy Serbia, but America is already much further down the road to destruction.

First there are parades, then there is same-sex “marriage” and a homosexualized, Dutch-style military. That’s how things go.

The vast majority of homosexuals in the military are women. Traditionally the military has not beaten women ~ unless absolutely necessary.

I doubt they date guys much though.

The issue will arise in the context of ordinary work and some lesbian is going to take umbrage at what someone says under his breath, or soto voce. Or, maybe she's going to complain about a male competitor for a preferred position ~ just to knock him out of the running.

This problem can only be overcome with total segregation by sex, or, alternatively, allowing everybody to say whatever they want about sex.

Ask them if the females should be forced to sleep, sh!t and shower with their male counterparts staring at them? Leering at them? Etc....!?!?!?!

THAT is a more accurate equation!

Aaron Belkin, director of the Palm Center at the University of California, Los Angeles, which pushed for the repeal, said the Department of Defense has made it clear that there will be no change in the way chaplains conduct their business once the ban is lifted.

“This is yet another example of people with traditional and, quite frankly, anti-gay views demanding protection for something that doesn’t need protection,” he said.

It's obvious this gay leader doesn't want chaplains able to speak their religious viewpoint. You know they'll fight to prevent troops from doing so.

The Constitution is clear, though. "no law...prohibiting free exercise." And the military chain of command is definitely an arm of the government that would be enforcing restriction on religious exercise.

How about legislation allowing any armed forces personnel the opportunity to transfer out of their unit if they are forced to serve with a sodomite, and doing so without declaring the reason for the request. It is only fair, you know!

No amount of logic penetrates. I can’t speak for the other services, but the Navy has no intention of segregating the sleeping and/or washing facilities of homo and hetero members.

I asked the O6 giving the training what the Navy’s policy was on homos getting deployed to a country where just being a homo is illegal (and carries a death sentence). We don’t have Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) with some of those countries. He told me it wasn’t covered in their command-level training.

To the Navy’s credit (and I hope they don’t go back on this), the DADT repeal training promised that sexual orientation wouldn’t be tracked. One of my biggest fears would that homos would become another “protected species” in the service with promotion and command quatas.

I’m a reservist, so my second-in-command, an E8 took the training at a different location. He’s just as much of a traditionalist as I am, and asked where is the protection for the 99% of straights?

I’ve been mulling over in my head whether or not to hang up my hat on my military career and DADT repeal is a weight in the “get out” column.

My son-in-law was a six year Marine reservist. He wanted to fly helicopters. He couldn't get in helos in the Corps, so he went to speak to the Army Reserves about switching services. When the DADT ruling came out in December, he just let his enlistment end in March! He said, "I will not be a part of that debacle. Trust me, this is going to be the end of several distinguished military careers."

I fear that he is quite correct!

Yes, the answer to this question will be central - which is why they won't seek answers to it.
