IBOPE Zogby Poll: Cain Passes Christie Among GOP Primary Voters; No One in GOP Field Leads Obama

UTICA, NY - Herman Cain leads Chris Christie as the top choice of Republican primary voters in the race for the 2012 Presidential nomination. Among all voters, no one in a list of 13 possible GOP candidates leads President Barack Obama. However, less than half of voters (42%) say Obama deserves re-election.

The results of a new IBOPE Zogby Interactive poll, conducted from May 20-23, show Cain, a businessman and radio talk show host who drew attention at the first party Presidential debate early this month, as the choice of 19% of GOP primary voters. Christie, the New Jersey Governor who led in our four previous polls, is second with 16%, followed by Mitt Romney in third with 11%.

Romney is now seen as a more acceptable candidate to Republican voters than he was in our interactive poll conducted from May 6-9. Then, 27% of GOP primary voters said they would never vote for Romney compared to just 9% who say so now. Romney remains the candidate GOP voters believe most likely to be the nominee with 37%, and no one else gets more than 6%.

Christie does best in a match-up with Obama, but trails, 45%-44%. Obama leads both Romney and Tim Pawlenty by 45%-40%. Obama is ahead of Cain, 46%-38%.

I hope Huntsman comes in and splits away part of Romney’s base.

Sad for the country that no one leads obama. Another 4 years of the commie and the stupid voters won’t recognize America. We can only fight but so much. He’s got a billion dollars to spend on smearing the Republicans and he has all the free glowing press he could possibly ask for. I don’t know how we overcome those odds. This is why we need to prove him a fraud and a liar. With irrefutable proof, we can get him out.

“Obama is ahead of Cain, 46%-38%”.

...this is interesting. Most definitely the “Cain’s an Uncle Tom” crowd.

“No one in GOP field leads 0bama.”
Which makes it worth reiterating: The Republic died on 11-4-2008.

Carter was leading Reagan with months to go. Polling this far out means literally nothing. Northing. Otherwise, just in recent history, we’d have President Hillary or Rudy right now.

Nothing - it would be a foregone conclusion.
1. Cain wipes the floor with the snot-nosed one.
2. The media spins it as the evil Cain disses The One, and lies about everything.
3. O'Barry issues a statement, "I won!".
4. The media regurgitates said statement.
5. We are all left knowing Cain is head and shoulders above Barry, but the MSM brainwashes the masses to think the opposite, and we're back to where we started.

Folks, keep your eyes centered on Herman Cain!!! Yes, he has to sharpen up a bit, but......all these “Washington” regulars ain’t nothing to write home about, including “dirt bag” POTUS Obama. Cain has fire in the belly, Cain is a true American, Cain rose from the bottom, Cain is a real person endowed with great strength and few weaknesses. Anyone of the Republican Establishment that bad mouths him is in for a rude surprise. Watch this guy!!! IMHO, he is just what our country needs now!!! Go, Herman, Go!!!

"Tea Party Voters

Cain edges Christie in GOP voter preference among primary voters who say they are more likely to vote for candidates endorsed by the Tea Party, 25%-18%.

Romney and Ron Paul get 9% from these Tea Party supporters, and Saran Palin is next at 8%. Eleven percent of these Tea Party supporters say they would never vote for Romney, but that is less than the 18% who say that about Paul and the 19% who rule out voting for Gingrich. These voters by far see Romney as the eventual nominee (39%). "

For all the talk about the Tea Party being out of sync with the regular GOP voters, it does not look like their preferences differ by very much.

You need an actual real life candidate before polling even begins to mean anything. And outside of the final three weeks, it still doesn’t mean much then.

The fact that Obama has > 10% approval rating is proof that our country’s best years are far behind us.

Obama would flat out destroy Cain in a debate. Cain is nowhere near ready to deal with the kind of issues that will come up in a presidential debate. The only reason he gets away with things like “I can’t tell you my Afghanistan/Iraq policy till I’m elected” or “I’m not for raising the debt limit but it’s too late for my plan to work” is because people don’t take him seriously enough to bother making a fuss over these sorts of gaffes.

Cain needs to win a local race first, maybe a House seat somewhere, then maybe something statewide. He’s going to have to come up through the system like pretty much everyone else, learn how to handle tough questions, how to deal with the media and generally prove he can win something before he can be taken seriously as a presidential candidate.

That's just a stupid interpretation of data. Until there really is a a GOP candidate or at least just a few the question is asking people with preferences for different GOP candidates to vote whether some other GOP candidate can beat Obama. They might think their choice can but not mine.

This is SO retarded. The typical way that people support their candidate in these polls is to say that they'd vote for him against the opponent, but theya they would NOT vote for any other candidate against that opponent. That is intended to make their guy look good and the other potential opponents look bad.

In reality, once the nominee is selected, any conservative that would choose Obama over the GOP nominee is quite daft.

How can 2/3’s of the voters who said just 2 weeks ago they would NEVER vote for Myth suddenly decide he’s acceptable. Zogby years ago had good numbers, now he seems to cook things on a regular basis.

Soooo, winning something is now considered to having the credentials to be a valid presidential candidate?

Whatever happened to accomplishments?

Obama had NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS either as a State or US Senator and how's he working out for ya?

I don’t like Huntsman’s connection to the Bushes.

The reason we have Obama in the White House is because of George Bush II and John McCain.
