They need to shift the focus to what Republicans are supposed to be leading on: job creation. Polls from NY26 showed that the GOP was actually polling below the Dems on this. Seriously. And the need to get back to hammering away at Obamacare.
And personally, I don’t think they should stick their necks out so close to the next election on Medicare when it’s obvious to everyone the Dems will only use it to demagogue. Ryan’s plan might be a perfectly logical economic proposal- but the plain truth that many people don’t want to admit is a fair amount of senior citizens don’t always have all the mental sharps they once had, and the Dems’ demagoguing works.
Ryan’s plan can always be brought up again with a Repub Senate majority and president. And if we get downgraded in our credit rating before that time... well, that’s Obama’s problem.
I don't see a Republican president ever pushing that plan no matter what they promise now to get through the primary. Remember GWB expanded medicare all on the nation's credit card mainly to win Florida in 2004. That is so far opposite of the Ryan plan it's on the other side of the universe.
