The search for Skyular is but one of the many sorrow-filled hunts for loved ones in this southwestern Missouri city of 50,000, where about 1,500 people remain missing. Authorities said the missing could include many who simply have not yet been able to let relatives know where they are.
Authorities in Joplin said they were racing against forecasts for more bad weather as well as grim survival odds for anyone still trapped.
"We're hopeful that we'll still be finding people," said Joplin fire Chief Mitch Randles, who said there were several reports of cries coming from beneath collapsed buildings. "We want to make every opportunity we can to find everybody that is still in the rubble and has survived to this point."

How awful. Prayers for those still trapped that they be found before it is too late.
Isn't it a rather important detail that 1500 are still missing?
What is the matter with our news media?
Not to minimize the significance of the situation, but “missing” seems like a bit of a strong word. Perhaps ‘unaccounted for” might be more accurate, though less sensational for sure.

My thoughts too!
I think I recall hearing that the 1500 number includes people who weren’t even in town when the tornado hit, so while the 125 death total will rise, it won’t increase by 1500.
The vast majority of the missing just didn’t check in or whatever. Another 100 dead at most. Still horrifying.
If it’s anything like the Tuscaloosa situation, the “missing” people are more an issue of communication difficulties than anything else. No guarantees though - I don’t know for sure.
Well, at least there are some news outlets who care enough to publish this tragedy.
Where I live, the big news is Hines Ward winning DWTS. Talk about screwed up priorities.
Too concerned with Odummy’s beer choices, Mooch’s clothing. and Oprah.
The figure has been 1500 for two days for a reason.
Prayers, Lord.
Exactly, folks just simply out of town would be accounted for by now either thru phone contact or having returned to check on their homes.
Exactly.
Worse than Katrina, in ONE small town, in 30 minutes, no way to warn the sleeping victims.
Where W tried to get Blanco and Nagin to do something, anything, two days in advance, and got the finger.
Cell carriers can very easily zero in on phones that go black and stay black within 500 ft. Nobody trying to use or replace their phone number on a new phone. Because they ‘can’t’.
True. The Militant Media has but one agenda, and that involves its complicity in the destruction of our Liberties. It’s sacred lord shall never be disparaged for the blunders and delinquencies charged against Bush.
ABC's Diane Sawyer assured us that all was well Obama was planning to visit Joplin on Sunday. If it were Bush there would be snarky remarks about his priorities, his hobnobbing with British royalty while tornadoes devastate Americas heartland.
And still not important enough to get in the way of golf and ping pong.
You expect anything less from the PROPAGANDA ARM OF THE DNC?
