Dems rejoice over NY; will Medicare redo 2012?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jubilant Democrats demanded Republicans abandon their sweeping plans to remake Medicare on Wednesday after casting a House race in upstate New York as a referendum on the popular program and emerging victorious.

"The top three reasons for the election of a Democrat in one of the most conservative Republican districts in America are Medicare, Medicare and Medicare," declared New York Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the party's congressional campaign committee.

House Republicans made little if any attempt to demonstrate widespread support for their controversial proposal during the day. And the National Republican Congressional Committee offered no explanation for having let hundreds of thousands of dollars in Democratic-funded attacks on the proposed Medicare overhaul go unchallenged in its own television advertising.

First I saw this mentioned today. If true, this is unfathomable. It would almost seem like this race was a throw away for the party if they didn't even bother to defend the charges. Fine if true, but then this needs to be mentioned far and wide so it is clear that this special election has no bearing on the rest of the nation or the 2012 budget.

The top three reasons for the election of a Democrat in one of the most conservative Republican districts in America are Conservative Vote Splitting, Conservative Vote Splitting, and Conservative Vote Splitting, Congressman. In case you can't read the election results, the majority of people in the 26th district voted AGAINST your Obama-loving Democrat. But gloat all you want and pretend you have a mandate, you'll find out next November that Kathy Hochul and her views on "medicare" are about as popular in NY-26 as Charles Djon was in Hawaii-1 after the Dems stopped splitting their votes there.

The ONLY reason the Democrat won was because they had a Democrat running as a fake Tea Party candidate.

The Tea Party isn't a party. It's the pendulum starting to swing the other way.

Does Obama drone Davey Espo have a single shred of evidence that Medicare had anything to doe with this election ?

Good olde Davey is just spitting out the latest talking points fax from the DNC!

The GOP stayed home for many reason including Bonehead showing that he is not interested in stopping Obamacare or the Spending and killed the GOP base morale and interest in voting for Bonehead spineless moves( 100 k did not vote this round ).
The stupid scandal does not help voter turnout for a GOP right after the guy resigned.

Frankly ,why did the clown resign over a Craig list photo ???
Barney Franks was caught running a male hustler ring and fixing parking tickets !
Then we have a third party Dem scam artist.

Not very conservative if they voted for a rat!

They voted for a RAT believing he was the “Tea Party” candidate because that’s what it said on the ballot. The vast majority of conservatives are not uneducated fools, but unfortunately about 9,495 (9% of voters) in NY’s 26 are.

No, the fake Tea Party candidate didn't swing it. The GOP completely allowed Hochul to lie about her opposition to Medicare cuts in Obamacare and set the narrative back to the evil Republicans are going to gut Medicare again, and too many sheeple fell for it. Nevermind that Obamacare completely guts Medicare.

Now the Dems have that narrative going into 2012 and will force Republicans to "compromise" on Medicare and kick the can down the road.

Oh well, I say let the program go belly-up and people can riot in the streets.

Yes, the fake tea party candidate DID swing it, and the numbers verify that:

Kathy Hochul (RAT) = 48,530 votes
Jane Corwin (GOP) 43,836 votes + Jack Davis "Tea Party" 9,495 votes = 53,331 votes

Candidates who proclaimed to be "consevative" got 5000 votes MORE than the liberal RAT. That's about on par for this district. Contrary to what the Dems claim, NY-26 is not overwhemlingly conservative and one of the safest GOP districts in the nation. It is drawn to give conservatives a modest majority, and voted that way in this election. It's not like the fake tea party candidate admitted he was really a liberal and told everyone a vote for him was a vote to "save medicare". He ran on a conservative platform and duped a bunch of conservatives into voting for him. I seriously doubt anyone scared that the evil GOP was going to cut Medicare voted for the "Tea Party". If anything, most of the "Tea Party" voters selected that choice because they wanted someone even MORE conservative on cutting government benefits.

Botton line: NY-26 -- 53,331 conservatives votes vs. 48,530 liberal votes cast. Unfortunately for us, 9,000 of those conservative voters were duped into supporting the wrong person.

If they’re rejoicing — I hope their goal is for Zero to win 47% of the vote (or even less) in 2012.

Tea Votes > Margin Between R and D

Mediscare made it closer but they still only won because of fake Tea partier Jack Davis.

Meanwhile, in Chuckie's Schumer's old NYC district, which hasn't elected a Republican since the 1920s...

Brooklyn 112/170 10,212 69% Bob Turner (GOP) - winner

Hey DemonRats!

Where's your "mandate" on "Medicare, medicare, medicare" NOW? It seems the results aren't quite the same without FAKE tea party candidates. Awww, too bad!

Sooooo... enlighten us, why'd you get such a HUGE SLAPDOWN from a "safe" NYC district, Steve Israel?

See you in 2012!

(Sorry, couldn't help but gloat. These douchebags who tried to claim a "mandate" from their fluke win back in May with 44% of the vote deserved it)

;-)

Are those same people are saying now that special elections are always isolated and a bellwether of nothing. ;-D

I hate spin, even when our side does it. I like the truth.

But most people are politically stupid so spinning is the sensible thing to do.

Voters are not happy with either party but Democrats have a disadvantage with Obama in the WH as Republicans did in 2006+2008.

Between Weiner and the economy you can see how Dems lost today's special election.

The special election to replace Anthony Weiner was a clear rebuke to Obama, and his policies in Israel are only part of it.
