Is Obama above the law?
Washington Post ^ | May 27, 2011 | George F. Will

The U.S. intervention in Libya’s civil war, intervention that began with a surplus of confusion about capabilities and a shortage of candor about objectives, is now taking a toll on the rule of law. In a bipartisan cascade of hypocrisies, a liberal president, with the collaborative silence of most congressional conservatives, is traducing the War Powers Resolution.

Enacted in 1973 over President Nixon's veto, the WPR may or may not be wise. It is, however, unquestionably a law, and Barack Obama certainly is violating it. It stipulates that a president must terminate military action 60 days after initiating it (or 90, if the president "certifies" in writing an "unavoidable military necessity" respecting the safety of U.S. forces), unless Congress approves it. Congress has been supine and silent about this war, which began more than 70 days ago.

When Dems start unnecessary wars, that's just fine... and Obama is cerainly above the law, laws don't apply to such an "exalted, brilliant" president.

He will cancel the 2012 elections next and Congress will "deem" him having been reelected... just wait and see. (sarcasm, but closer to reality, than I like to think)

“He will cancel the 2012 elections”

Nope, he’ll just have his idiot lackeys steel it. We’re about to see voting fraud on a level never before experienced.

Then in 2016, he’ll declare himself “President for Life.” For the good of the people, of course.

And most Americans are so d###ed ignorant and stupid that they’ll believe it. My proof? The left chose obastard, and the right chose McCain = obastard light. And then they voted for obastard.

We’re screwed...

Hi. My name’s Caligula. What’s yours?
It may well take a Praetorian Guard like act to remove this tool. Congress never counted on someone like this. And it’s not the none. It’s the people behind him who figured out there was no real mechanism to curtail these many outlandish actions, short of civil war.

IF.... this nation “ever” cancels or suspends election process ..... there will be a violent house cleaning IMO.

Yes, all presidents are above the law for one reason. The POS THEY get to appoint if they are impeached or resign before impeachment will give them a full pardon 99.999999% of the time.

“War with Libya, not a word of protest”

I would bet there are protests all over about this very issue, the problem is, the media won’t cover it.

With W., it was broadcast 24/7 on every station.

I saw this with the G8. Every news cast lead with the protests, attributing them to Bush. The same protestors were out at the G8 against Obama, but it was just a blip on the 20th page of the auto section.

We have many friends and relatives in Germany, Austria, and Hungary, and none of them think very much of Obama. If you ask them ‘why did you guys love Obama before”, they will look at you like your nuts, they don’t care one way or the other, they have their own jobs, their own lives, and their own families, and who the American president is, to them, is a non-issue. Now, the yoots abroad is a different story, they are just trained to hate everyone and blame everyone, and the US is the biggest target because... well, we’re Goliath I guess.

But no, I think the protests against America are still going on, they are just pushed under the rug by the media. It doesn’t fit their profile of “Bushes Fault”.

And, I think the protests that were going on during W’s terms were blown WAY out of proportion. You would get 12 people protesting in some far away country, most likely orchestrated by CNN themselves (remember enraged muslim guy who as at all the protests? and the woman with the unspent shells that went through her house?) and the media would be all over it. I reckon there were more media cameras and reporters at those events, then there were actual protestors.

That’s just my 2 cents.

many years ago, i thought George Will was brilliant.

...but he only NOW notices, that the President is a criminal, and is getting away with it?

...taking over the auto industry, firing CEO’s and placing cronies in charge, firing IG, refusing to enforce laws like DOMA, intervening to stop legal laws in States, violating the LOGAN act blatantly, and i’m sure many others here could add a lot i’ve missed.
and George Will only wakes up NOW, for the War Powers Act???

(and sorry, but i also think it is impossible he has a Connecticut SSN, when he never lived there. criminal fraud.)

“He thinks he is; but he is not”

He is getting away with it, isn’t he.

I think he shouldn’t be above the law, but is.

Liberals since the beginning of time have always believed themselves to be the law. High minded moderates seem to still be slow in recognizing the depravity of the liberal mind. BamBamKennedy told Joe the Plumber, and US all, who he is in his heart of hearts, when he said without the aid of his programmed teleprompter, he was going to redistribute the wealth. Some people really have to live and learn first hand the full measurement of what that mentality literally means.

Maybe the next time one of these liberals describe the Constitution a living breathing document old George Will will comprehend the gravity of their claims.... They are the breath of life that makes the Constitution live. (Well for the time being, then sudden destruction.)

“...the collaborative silence of most congressional conservatives...”

The GOP has filled the vacuum created by the Democrats when they went full-bore Communist and shifted further to the left. There was a time when a ‘Southern-Democrat’ was more Conservative than most of todays Republicans.

..........laws don't apply to such an "exalted, brilliant" president.............

That's so true.

I mean, nobody---but nobody----appreciates all that "tolerance and compassion." Well, maybe good ol' Valerie Jarrett (sniffle).

Let's face it, he's just too damned perfect to be president. (sob)

He has a higher calling than mere president.

He should reconsider, maybe quit the presidency and go after his true calling----that of a blessed divinity (bawl).

Yes, when the principal indicter is one Eric “my People” Holder, he is above the coded laws. As for ethics, impeachment, etc... we’ll have to get majorities in both houses AND the guts to call him to task. I doubt we will ever get that. There are too many spines missing in the Republican ranks. We should have GOP Spine Telethon to get them some.

I would note that the Republican party controls the House of Representatives... and they have done nothing in regards to this.

Nothing!

Above the Law?
He is THE LAW.
Just ask him or look at his record.

In addition to his nose-thumbing of the WPR, there was the flouting of court injunctions against his banning oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the enacting of “net neutrality.”

Yes, he certainly is convinced he`s above the law... but no matter, because laws are designed to keep the subjects in line. Such restrictions do not apply to our betters. After all... that which Obama does is always correct, because he is incapable of being wrong.

If Bush were pulling the same stunts, the double standard radical Dems would be staging protests every day of the week.
