People entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico are believed responsible for more than one-third of human-ignited wildfires in Arizona over a five-year period, according to a government report that could stoke congressional debate over illegal immigration. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said the Government Accountability Office report supports remarks he made earlier this year after his state was hit hard by wildfires. At the time, McCain was accused of "scapegoating" immigrants. "I hope this report is a lesson to the activists and public officials that would prefer to engage in partisan character attacks rather than help focus the discussion on the...

Every single day that passes, Occupy Wall Street becomes more violent and more desperate. After over 4,000 arrests, dozens of rapes, hundreds of thefts, and multiple murders, it is exceedingly evident that OWS is an anarchistic group of morons with no apparent purpose. The only rallying cry they see to have is, "We are the 99%," a lie that spits in the face of the facts. However, it appears that OWS has a new cry: kill the police. Occupy Wall Street is now advising people to resist arrest. And they do not mean peacefully existing arrest. No, instead OWS suggests...

On the eve of the Occupy Wall Street protests, it’s useful to take a look at its legacy. There are plenty of ways to measure the depravity that we’ve seen during the past several months, but it’s simplest to focus on the following themes: arrests, assaults, death and disease – plus the financial burden that the rest of the country has to shoulder in order to clean it all up:Number of arrests: 3,621 (via Occupy Arrests )Number of deaths: 4 – one murder, one suicide, one suspected drug overdose and one mystery.Number of sexual assaults: At least seven that have...

Today is November 17, the two month anniversary since Occupy Wall Street began. Protestors have declared today to be an International Day of Action, calling for people to "occupy their block," to "shut down Wall Street" starting at 7:00 AM, and to "occupy the subway" starting at 3:00 PM. We have been hearing that protestors, and the NYPD, will be amassing all over the city today, and will be live blogging dispatches from our own Village Voice staff writers Rosie Gray (@_rosiegray) and Nick Pinto (@macfathom), as well as photographer C.S. Muncy (@CSMuncyPhoto), who are on the scene through out...

Police are investigating a fatal shooting just outside the Occupy Oakland encampment in Northern California, the apparent suicide of a military veteran at an Occupy encampment in Vermont's largest city and a man found dead in a tent Friday morning in Utah. Salt Lake City's police chief has ordered all protesters to leave a city park after authorities found the body of the man, who was in his 40s. A cause of death was not available, but authorities say it did not immediately appear to be foul play. Police Chief Chris Burbank says the group will now have to pack...

Sheriff Joe threatened for probing eligibility Says intimidation comes from drug lords, Obama fans: 'I'm not sure which are worse' Amid death threats, Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scratching his head over the major media's virtual silence about his decision to investigate Barack Obama's eligibility to run for re-election. "Getting death threats is nothing new for me," Arpaio told WND, referring to his national reputation as a tough enforcer of immigration laws. "But why has the media has decided to black out all news of our Obama investigation? That's what I don't understand. "I'm a controversial guy and...

One of two suicide bombers who blew themselves up during an attack on peacekeepers in Somalia was an American, the country's Islamist leadership claimed on Sunday. In a post on a Somali website popular with the al-Shabaab insurgency, Abdusalam al-Muhajir said that he left the US to fight with militants two years ago but now "wanted to die as a martyr". He and his accomplice disguised themselves as Somali government soldiers, allowing them to get close to an African Union position before troops there became suspicious and opened fire. The two men then detonated explosive vests they were wearing. At...

Mogadishu, Somalia - An al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group on Sunday posted a tape allegedly made by an American citizen who blew himself up during an attack on an African Union base in Somalia's capital that left at least 10 people dead. The young man, who would be at least the fourth American to become a suicide bomber in Somalia, urges other young people not to "just chill all day" and instead fight nonbelievers around the world. The website Somalimemo.net, often used by the al-Shabab militia, said Somali-American bomber Abdisalan Taqabalahullaah had emigrated to the U.S. when he was 2 years old.

If there were questions about al-Qaida’s role in post-Gadhafi Libya, VICE reporter Sherif Elhelwa provides some answers in a new story with eyewitness descriptions. Al-Qaida flags, Elhelwa reports, are popping up around Benghazi. At the city courthouse, which played a prominent role in the Libyan revolution, residents are flying the late terrorist’s Osama bin Laden’s colors. Similarly, Elhelwa recounts a regular evening sight: “Islamists driving brand-new SUVs and waving the black al Qaeda flag drive the city’s streets at night.”

Pakistan's army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has warned Washington to "think 10 times" before launching any unilateral offensive in the restive North Waziristan tribal region even as an angry and frustrated US is lining up its artillery on the Afghan border facing Pakistan. The Obama administration is also initiating fresh diplomatic efforts to persuade Pakistan to reel back its "self-destructive" policy of seeking strategic depth through terrorism before more aggressive military action. US secretary of state Hillary Clinton is heading for Islamabad this weekend in a trip that is officially secret but is being discussed animatedly in diplomatic circles...

The Obama Admin. shows once again who its REAL constituents are: ILLEGAL ALIENS. The Department of Justice, which is appealing Alabama's outstanding new law, has set up a "hotline" number for illegals to report "civil rights" incidents under the new law. Opponents of Alabama’s new immigration law can now call the Justice Department directly to make complaints about the state’s effort to crack down on illegal immigrants. The Justice Department has set up a hotline and email for the public “to report potential civil rights concerns related to the impact of Alabama’s immigration law.” Clearly the DOJ is trying emotional...

Muslims are forbidden to touch dogs. They believe any house where a dog is kept will never be entered by God’s angels. If this was all there was to it, who could quarrel with their position? Jews can’t eat pork (Muslims can’t either) Muslims can’t have anything to do with dogs, what’s the problem? Actually, the Muslims themselves are the problem. Muslims, especially the Islamist Muslims can not and will not leave the question of dogs alone. Because they are taught by their religion that “Allah” commands them to kill dogs, they could not care less who owns a particular...

by John HillStand With Arizona For months, America has been told by left-wing non-profits like the Alien Criminals Liberation Union (ACLU), La Raza and LULAC, that Alabama's new immigration law H.B. 56, "targets Hispanics" and is "anti-Latino". Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn wisely ignored that rhetoric when she let stand (pending trial) the law's most critical section - having police check immigration status of individuals apprehended in a lawful stop or arrest. Well, the very first such arrest has now occurred since the Judge's ruling. And - surprise, he is not from Mexico, or any other Latino American nation. He...

President Obama is extending full constitutional due-process rights to a Somali terrorist. This sets a troubling precedent. He reportedly revealed a great deal of valuable information regarding his connections to the Somalia-based al-Shabab militant group and the Yemen-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. So far, so good. (Snip) The Warsame indictment is an end run around Congress, which last year voted to bar the transfer of terrorist

Recently, we discussed Congressman Darrell Issa's (R-CA) explanation of what this week's (and upcoming) "Project Gunwalker" hearings have been (and will be) about: This is not a discovery process of what happened--we know what happened. It’s hard not to see the signs all around us that America has begun a cataclysmic downward spiral in finances and morality. It’s like watching a slow motion murderous wreck, all the while denying that it is actually occurring. I assure you, what is unfolding in the US now is all too real. It’s a reality that is about to smack Americans full frontal in the face and many will never even see it coming until it is way too late. It is hard for me to imagine how people cannot see what is happening in finances and in politics...

The U.S. intervention in Libya’s civil war, intervention that began with a surplus of confusion about capabilities and a shortage of candor about objectives, is now taking a toll on the rule of law. In a bipartisan cascade of hypocrisies, a liberal president, with the collaborative silence of most congressional conservatives, is traducing the War Powers Resolution. Enacted in 1973 over President Nixon's veto, the WPR may or may not be wise. It is, however, unquestionably a law, and Barack Obama certainly is violating it. It stipulates that a president must terminate military action 60 days after initiating it (or...

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports: The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus filed a lawsuit Monday against the state of Georgia seeking to dissolve the city charters of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Chattahoochee Hills. Further, the lawmakers, joined by civil rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery, aim to dash any hopes of a Milton County. The lawsuit, filed in a North Georgia U.S. District Court Monday, claims that the state circumvented the normal legislative process and set aside its own criteria when creating the “super-majority white ” cities within Fulton and DeKalb counties.
