Canda Free Press ^ | May 29, 2011 | Calvin E. Johnson, Jr.

Uncle Bob Brown, a former servant of the Davis family and a passenger on the train, saw the many flowers that the children had laid on the side of the railroad tracks. Brown was so moved by this beautiful gesture that he wept uncontrollably.

The perpetual union predated the Federalist papers. After the perpetual union, came the “more perfect” union under the current constitution.

Also, and the libertarians tend to forget this, the Federalist Papers ARE NOT in any way shape or form codified law. They are nothing more than essays of private individuals (yes they all held government posts, but the anonymity of Federalist Papers makes them private with no official bearing) conveying their personal opinions about the nature of government and reasons why the Constitution should be adopted.

Thanks for the nice recital on Morrill.

The South had been through this already a generation earlier, with the 1828 Tariff of Abominations. That confrontation had threatened the Union without any reference to slavery or abolition.

They would not be able to rape their concubines on their NY shopping trips.

Ah, yes -- the Secret History of Procopius carried down to these latter days. The Civil War was, secretly, all about concubinage! Those damned Masons!

A perpetual union, perfected, and the secession as practiced by the late rebellious states was of no legal effect, as determined by the Supreme Court under Texas v. White.

The "Perpetual Union" ceased to exist the minute the ninth State ratified the Constitution -- by doing which, by the way, all nine of the ratifying States seceded, as admitted by James Madison in The Federalist, from the Perpetual Union.

By ratifying the one, they necessarily and ineluctably seceded from the other. Illegally, no less.

You will now concede this point and this argument, right now, forever, as a basis of further discussion. Give it up. Give it to me right now.

So, no response to the legality. (Texas v. White)?
No response to Fact. (The south lost.)
No response to politics. (The south couldn’t get the legislation they wanted)

I guess you don’t have much of a case then.

Lies.
The south flourished on lies.
Pretending that slavery was a good thing.
Pretending that those of African heritage could never be equal to a white man.
Pretending that the war was about the tariff

Pretending that the south, could be independent. The south and slavery only flourished via cotton because of the Cotton Gin, an invention by a northern industrialist. Slave owners made millions by renting their slaves out to build military installations with federal money.

Slave owners enslaved whites using the militia rolls to coerce poor non-slave owners into chasing runaway slaves.

Actually no. They didn’t leave the union. Rather, changed the union. The Congress of the articles of Confederation made a resolution that the new constitution had been ratified, and the new government would take effect. The states never left the old union. The later joiners just weren’t in the new one yet.

Wrong again. By the standards of THAT day, slavery was morally permissable.......not today. I will correct my website.....thanks for pointing that out.

Oh...I know my history, but what’s your point? Thomas Jefferson was a slave owner as well. So was Ulysses Grant. Jim Bowie also had lumber mills. Business is business...especially when legal.

“By the standards of THAT day, slavery was morally permissable.{sic]”

Is it your view that morals change from time to time and might be immoral today might be moral in the future?

Absolutely. Morals change with society, wether we agree or not. Most southerners of the day were Christians, yet felt the scripture justified slavery. I don’t think they should change, but the truth is that they do!?

Even if the Constitution protected my right to own those prostitutes, not to mention the law of the land?

Exactly what kind of conservative are you? (obviously one who doesnt respect the right to own private property)

Horse hockey. Don’t blame the South for slavery. Blame the Yankee slave traders.
