I would have to do a little research to discover what really happened, but for the sake of argument lets just assume that David Mamet for the most part got it right in his movie The Untouchables. From memory now, so be kind- At a crucial point in the movie Malone (Sean Connery) asks Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner), whom he could trust. The answer? No one. Not quite the answer Eliot was hoping for, but it was exactly what he needed to hear to appreciate just how corrupt the Police of Chicago were.
Of course by that time Ness was already fully aware of the situation, having had a major sting operation compromised only days earlier. He had already dismissed the handpicked elite force because he knew that they had tipped Capone and his cohorts off. To bring real change it was essential to first find people who could not be bought. Any effort was worthless, regardless of its merit, if Ness didnt have true believers working for him. (Anyone guessed where I am going with this yet?)

A very good lesson at that. WE have to hold our “leaders” feet to the fire no matter what.
The key line, for me, is repeated twice in case we miss it.
“What are you prepared to do?”
The GOP is corrupted—they are in bed with the likes of Seros and his big money power brokers. Sarah should Trust no one and look to find a new breed of helpers and followers—people who want to change things—real change not cosmetic change. We need to reform the GOP or form a new party. The endless Rino march must stop. I believe she can do it.
A politician has to spend almost ALL of his or her time raising money for campaigning. That truth has corrupted the entire process and prevents an honest discussion of solutions for America's problems.
The process is hopelessly corrupted and I don't see a way to prevent the collapse of our system because of it.
The country is in the hands of scoundrels and is financially insolvent. How do you fix that when anyone responsible cannot find the time to do anything but raise campaign money?
“In questions of power then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” - Thomas Jefferson
The Founders knew that the more government, the more corruption. Money seeks favor from the government. If the government has very limited powers, there is little reason to offer bribes to its administrators.
Admittedly, raising money is the politicians’ bane. However, there remain principled people running for office. You tell me that Pawlenty going into Iowa and telling the people he is going to deep six ethanol doesn’t take guts?
Pawlenty can’t win the nomination, and probably wouldn’t win the general election. He may have guts, and he may be clean, but he pushed Cap and Tax, and has no explanation other than it was a mistake. The urge to make policy is strong in this one Obi Wan.
Yes, and we don’t have to do much really. Start by getting off the couch people.
