SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Thomas Walsh, aide to Mayor Domenic Sarno told 22News that the City of Springfield has requested that the National Guard come to the city, where there has been damage from a tornado.
Walsh said that all motorists are advised to stay at home and not venture out onto the roads, in order to give emergency workers time to get to where they need to go.
Walsh said that the National Guard is on its way.
The State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) has been called in to help search damaged buildings for the possibility that anyone is trapped. Traffic into the city is being limited, as highway ramps leading to the city have been closed by State Police.
I have been following the local news a lot. I haven’t heard anything about Reed’s Landing specifically, but they did show damage to nearby Springfield College. Numerous trees down and some blown out windows.
They showed downtown from Rt. 5 across the river. It is totally dark with the exception of some of the large buildings which must have their own backup generators.
lol...I think I know what he means...
Thank you Matt. The footage of that storm sucking up the Connecticut river between the two bridges to downtown was astounding. The damage looks extensive, so many buildings made of old brick. If you are in that area, be safe...and thank you for the report.
me too..........*smiles*...I fall to that type of typing often.
