WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Job growth decelerated sharply in May, the Labor Department said Friday. Total nonfarm payrolls increased by 54,000, much lower than the 125,000 gain expected by Wall Street economists. This is the smallest increase in nonfarm payroll since September. The unemployment rate ticked higher 9.1% in May from 9.0% in the previous month.

Failure depends on what you consider success. if your goal is to bring America down to size and punish her, you’d now consider the your policies successful.

Welcome to the new normal.
The tragedy of the commons coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

If I had voted for Mr. Obama, I think this morning would be a really good day to take a long walk off a short pier.

Thanks for the great stimulus package, Mr. President. I hope all of your cronies liked it.

You spent all that time going for a ridiculously expensive health care program that cannot possibly work.

You should have spent the last two years working on growth.

OMG, are you this ignorant?

We would have been better off if you had spent the last two years asleep.

I believe the proper term here would be "hoped for," not "expected." Anyone expecting great economic news in this climate is seriously delusional.

Unemployment looking better, now only 9.1%.

Chocolate ration in June increased to 20 grams.

Obama a lock for 2012; weak Republican field in disarray.

(just give the MSM a little time, that’s what the news will look like before all is said and done).

Thing is we had the dead cat bounce. The economy was picking up...for awhile. How do they blame Bush now?

This is all at Obama’s feet. What’s he going to say, that the GOP didn’t run high enough deficits? The only thing they got is the thug and bully avenue.

Is it wrong of me to smile at this news? It seems selfish to want the economy to be really bad for 2012 but that is the way I feel. Anything that hurts Obama.

I've never liked that attitude that some people have, saying they'd like to see the worst candidates win, so that people will see how bad things get and learn a lesson. I'd rather just avoid the bad times. But--I will admit, there is some value in people getting to witness for themselves just how badly a leftist ideologue can mess things up. It's been a LONG time since Carter; many voters today weren't around during his presidency.

Some dedicated leftists won't learn, however. No matter how bad things get, they'll believe that it's because we haven't gone far enough to the left.

In Wisconsin, we’re not firing teachers, just trying to get them to pay more for their benefits but you would think we’re marching them in front of firing squads.

The WH, Obie and his handlers have to be intensely frustrated. They know what policies they can implement to improve the financial/job situation, but they can't bring themselves to do it because it would run counter to their core socialist beliefs.

“It seems selfish to want the economy to be really bad for 2012 but that is the way I feel.”

You couldn’t be more right. In fact, if the economy isn’t a complete disaster, the inattentive morons that are the American general public, won’t tie it to Obama, (and the MSM will do anything to keep them from doing so).

Over the weekend, I heard people talking about how it seems they spend more money, but can’t understand it since there is no inflation!!!!

They had no clue that food and gas aren’t included in the inflation calculations. I’m telling you, there are people out there that have no clue Obama is wrecking things.

he’ll probably say, the tax cuts didn’t work. Things were growing until we extended the tax cuts. Oh, and the GOP is refusing to increase the debt limit, and they is causing business uncertainty.

Both are blatant lies, but that’s what the guy does....and the media laps it up.

It is time now to emphasize the failure of Keynes and socialism. You have to drill on it every day every hour to get the brain numb dope heads to "get it". You cannot have a war against the job creators and expect them to create jobs. This is the very policies that made the depression of '29 the "Great" depression. Gubmint jobs are a negative, not a real job. The government jobs suck the air out of the real job realm. Gubmint spending isn't the same as WORKERS spending their own earned money. Raising taxes to give more largess out is like healing the sick with leeches.

If we had just given a $trillion dollars of tax breaks to business in the beginning, we would be having high inflation, GDP growth in the 5-8% range and 500k jobs per month. We would still have a trillion dollars added to the debt, but at least it would have had the desired effect. Now we have no jobs, more debt, and more importantly, "NO MORE BULLETS" for the next president. The only bright spot is even a total dummy on drugs will not vote Obama a second term. I'm not saying he will be easy to beat because the American economic education is so lacking they would vote for Castro if they could, but there just isn't enough of them to get Obama back in. The big question now is can we make it to 2012? Will there be enough of America left to fix? Will the next guy know what to do? Anybody without "Friedman" as their middle name shouldn't have a chance of election. A question that must be asked, even of republicans, should be "What would you do first?" Platitudes and spin must stop right now. If someone doesn't have a plan, we don't have the time or money to mess with them. If we are just going to inflate our way out of this, we have another loser and we won't survive another term. America MUST change, and right now, not 6 months from now. I'm not even sure the Republicans shouldn't try impeachment for stealing 3 trillion dollars.

Pay more? I thought it was a bump from 0 to like 5 bucks or something like that.

I say make um pay AND fire some administrators. No one will miss the assistant/assistant/assistant vice principal.

I think that in a earlier time, the dimrat party would work to push ozero out of office. That was when some of them actually had more loyalty to our country than their party. But look at the make up of the leadership of their party. They are of the same mindset as their leader. Their loyalty to their party way outweighs whatever loyalty they may have to this country. I don’t think they will do anything but prop up barak. They place their political power way above the well being of our country. This crap won’t get better until the dims are voted out of office and forcebly removed after they lose.

How many of these 54,000 jobs are full time?

If you look at Table B you can see average weekly hours and Table B-2 gives average weekly hours and overtime.

Fisrt look at how the Birth and Death model influenced the 54,000.

Bush’s fault.

Partly. The three administrations prior to Obama had no problem with illegal aliens, 'guest workers', and cheap labor off shore doing jobs American 'can't/wont't' do. Obama and his buds are just administering le coup de grace.
