The White House has finally forged a bipartisan consensus in Congress. Unfortunately for President Obama, lawmakers are uniting in opposition to his approach to the ongoing U.S. involvement in the Libyan civil war. Some see the operation as an ill-advised and useless military venture; others argue that Mr. Obama is breaking the law.
On Friday the House took up two nonbinding resolutions regarding the Libyan adventure. Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, Ohio Democrat, called for the withdrawal of all U.S. military support within 15 days. His resolution attracted 148 votes, 87 of which were from Republicans. A second resolution, submitted by House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, passed 268-145, with support from 45 Democrats. The resolution states that authorization for involvement in Libya has been neither requested nor granted, asks the president to provide detailed information on the mission within 14 days and reaffirms that American ground troops should not be sent to Libya.
The White House has taken an odd stand on the Libyan war’s legality, particularly with respect to the War Powers Resolution. The administration ignored the statutory 60-day reporting requirement, arguing that it does not apply to Libya. The White House describes American involvement as “a narrow effort that is intermittent and principally an effort to support the ongoing NATO-led and U.N.-authorized civilian support mission and no-fly zone.” The president said that this included “nonkinetic support to the NATO-led operation,” “suppression and destruction of air defenses in support of the no-fly zone” and targeted drone strikes...

Agreed. I can’t believe he has no one in his group of advisers that doesn’t have a little more intelligence than what has been shown. I have to believe he ignores them and does as he darn well pleases.

His good contributor Goldman-Sachs holds Gadaffi’s forture of $1.5 billion dollars. Goldman-Sachs hedged his money in high risk and lost it. They’ve offered Gadaffi less than 50 cents on the dollar already de-valued...Gadaffi knows that Goldman Sachs got plenty of taxpayer dollars to cover his funds and he’s declining...this all came out about the time that OHamas starting shooting up Gadaffi’s back yard and took out his son and grandchildren.
It could have been worse. If Boner hadn’t submitted his bill, the much stronger Kucinich bill would have passed. So Boner put his much weaker and basically ineffectual bill forward and gave the Republicans an excuse to vote for it instead.
Obama has rewarded Boner by inviting him to play golf.
I know you’re right. I wasn’t a big fan of James Jones but I’m sure that’s why he resigned as NSA.
I hope he’s impeached, the sooner he’s out of the WH the better for the country.
You’re probably right, we’ll see what happens in the 14 days coming up but wouldn’t be surprised if Zer0 just strokes Boehner.
One would think at this point Congress and the Senate would realize Obama is suggesting to them to perform something anatomically impossible.

I believe the one that did pass is good and will have good effects. It’s Obama’s move and he can’t claim Congressional approval for Libya.
This bipartisan bill shows we have an illegal war. An ILLEGAL WAR. A real one. Not a phony "illegal" claim like used against Bush.
I was speaking practically. I don’t think it would have passed with or without the alternative bill.
I see the bill that passed as the best step. It starts the clock on Obama getting congressional approval. If he blows it, which is quite possible, then there’s three possible outcomes, two of them bad for O.
