Just two days after Bexar County Sheriff's Sgt. Kenneth Vann was honored by thousands at his funeral, local and federal officials on Sunday raided a far South Side house and arrested a man they said was responsible for the ambush style slaying last month.
Mark Anthony Gonzales, 41, was taken into custody without incident around 4 p.m., at his home in the 19700 block of Pleasanton Road, about one mile north of Loop 1604.
He faces one charge of capital murder, officials said.
He was in the home with his wife and one of their two children, whose names and ages were not released.
Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz said deputies worked overnight Saturday to write search and arrest warrants, and a judge was reached at home Sunday to sign them.

Ortiz said a local tip led authorities to Gonzales but officials did not elaborate on that tip and little information was released on how they connected Gonzales to the shooting.
Widow Sgt. Yvonne Vann, also with the Sheriff's office, spoke to the media at her Spring Branch home after the suspect's arrest.
I know he'll get the death penalty, because that's what it calls for, and he'll get the death penalty as much as my husband did, Yvonne Vann said, gathered with his three children from a previous marriage: a 25-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 19 and 15.
Authorities did say they found an automatic weapon similar to the one believed to be used in the shooting and Gonzales owns a blue truck matching the description of one that was seen near the scene.
As Gonzales was driven by a deputy from his home he could be heard telling a reporter who asked about the shooting, I don't know what you're talking about.

Now we want to know . . . why?
Those violent Amish again?
***Eight days from the murder to the arrest. Not bad. ***
Too bad we can’t have a hanging eight days after the trial.
We'd be lucky to get one in 28 years. That's how ridiculous the so called "death penalty" has gotten.
Why are so many thugs named Gonzalez? Could we just bury that last name and move on, see what happens?

With friends like that, we’ll need more prisons. I’m okay with that...

To know why you’d have to find out first where they intersected in their lives.
What was Vann’s job in the Sheriff’s dept—that would be the first place I’d look for that intersection?
In San Antonio it often doesn’t take much to set off a killing but a drive by with an automatic rifle sets off alarm bells in my mind.
Which facts exactly?
Yea, so what?
So what? This particular Gonzales is a Medal of Honor recipient. That's what. The person saying to do away with that last name needs to STFU. You know, the one you told to "Go away."
Sorry, I see. I wasn’t sure what your point was but I don’t think I appreciated the other guys insinuation.
