The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced on Tuesday that it plans to ban the sale of “the most toxic rat and mouse poisons, as well as most loose bait and pellet products” to residential customers. The goal is to better protect children, pets and wildlife. “These changes are essential to reduce the thousands of accidental exposures of children that occur every year from rat and mouse control products and also to protect household pets,” said Steve Owens, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention. The EPA also will require that all rat and mouse poisons

I am just stunned because the markings of your cat and mine as a kid are unbelievably close. You know, maybe the markings are an indicator of a good “mouser”. Bussy (rhymes with pussy cat) was a fabulous mouser and would leave little presented on the front door, back door, side door... countless times.

He has been very entertaining. I have a lot of Nimh stories. But we quit letting him out about 5 years ago. The coyotes increased in number and it was just too dangerous. Of course, the mouse he deposited on the bed he caught in the house. lol

All you hear is the trap buzz as it electrocutes them.

I think that’s one of those New York City sewer rats, actually. Or, no, on closer examination, I’ll bet it’s a nutria.

wouldn’t be far off that the EPA bans mouse traps because they’re so-called inhumane to rabies infested rats

I can totally picture Nimh (great name, btw!) laughing his kitty head off at that situation. He’s got that look.

We usually end up having to throw half-dead mice out in the yard to expire. Then we praise the kitties to no end in the hopes it will motivate them to continue improving!

In 2008, EPA gave producers of rat and mouse poisons until June 4, 2011 to research, develop and register new products that are safer for children, pets and wildlife. Those new products have enclosed bait delivery systems and less toxic baits but still provide effective rodent control, the EPA said.

While many companies have agreed to adopt the new safety measures, “a handful of companies” are refusing to comply. The EPA said it will “initiate cancellation proceedings” against non-compliant products to remove them from the market.

I’ll see if I can post a better, full-face picture of my cat (Mumbles) tonight. As for being a good “mouser”, she got one the very first day we had her in the house - and she was only 8 weeks old!

Well your kitties ARE catching them. I don't know about eating them as there are *ahem* "inner portions" that Nimh leaves on the hardwood floor because he won't eat them. Blech! I think I'd rather pick up a whole one to dispose of.

Chipmunks on the other hand taste bad so not even the feral cats outside will eat them. They catch them, play with them for awhile and let them go. That's really hard on the tulips.

For some strange reason, tuxedo cats seem far more intelligent than other ‘types’. I’ve had two before the current little lady who came to live with me. Every one I’ve had living with me has been excellent in training me to their wishes.

I had to put my cat down last year...she thought she was a dog. Would play hide and seek with me...soooo funny and then come out and grab my leg! Then I’d go hide and she’d have to hunt for me...when she found me she’ go and run and hide. Her favorite game was “paper bag”...what a hoot!

“Kitty” was stone deaf...abused as a wee kitten. My son saw her alone one day and just scooped her up and brought her home. That was the end of that. She was spoiled thereafter. Was with us for 12 years until she began loosing her urinary control...then her hair and various other medical problems which could not be fixed. I miss her of course. So I love to see other peoples cats and hear their stories.

Oh my gosh! Eight weeks old and got her first mouse? She probably wasn’t that much bigger than the mouse! She definitely has the instinct. I have the feeling that she will be “gifting” you with plenty of them!

Time to ban the EPA.

It’s actions are detrimental to the health and well being of every Americana between the ages of birth and death.

You haven't gotten another kitty?
