Sarah Palin is set to tour national monuments around the country this summer, and one congressman wants to know how that will affect everyone else.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) sent a letter to the National Park Service today asking how federal resources were used for the northeast leg of Palins One Nation Tour, which traveled from Washington, D.C. to New Hampshire last week. His concern: press accounts of the tour which provided personal and political benefits to former Gov. Palin, suggest that National Park Service resources were made available to an extent beyond that which an average American family would receive.
Palin was surrounded by park rangers and, at times, police officers during her tour stops. Last Wednesday, she and her family were accompanied by approximately 10 authorities as they toured the Statue of Liberty.

I want a Republican Congressman to launch an inquiry into how much it will cost to conduct the Democrats' inquiry into the cost to the government of Sarah Palin visiting national parks. My guess is the inquiry will cost more than her visits cost the government.

PLEASE try.
So much attention paid to a private citizen.
For someone who’s a nobody, too much negatives, can’t win, is stupid, hasn’t announced she’s running, etc. etc. etc.

While you are at it, check out Obama’s golf outings, trips to NYC for shows and flybys of AF1. Jeeeez! These libtards are actually certifiable. The new Coulter book nails ‘em!

Should we have investigated Jesse Jackson for his use of the Capitol Mall for the Million Man March some years back. If a private person schedules a stop or a lawful assembly & the park service needs to put on extra security, who exactly owns that decision? Seems it’s their duty to provide the security unless they are prepared to turn that citizen away (unlikely).

I suspect the inquiry will result in zero dollars spent on Palin’s personal appearances. However, the cost of this inquiry will round up to $20k easily by the end. Personally...I’d like to see a simple law that says when congressmen ask for inquiries....the cost involved is linked back to the congressman’s own office expense account. If the President himself was uncomfortable with this mess...he’d just appoint an independent prosecutor and let them do it at gov’t expense. Obviously, no one publicly wants to go that far.
To: kristinn
MOST of the problems with the tour...was the media trying to keep up with her.
Palin is a private citizen on a bus tour of America. Other private citizens who tour America are not followed and hounded by a motorcade of would-be paparazzi.
This was probably instigated by that reporter who whined and bitched all week about what a "safety hazard" the motorcade because (wah, wah, wah) "Sarah would tell us where she was going next." (wah wah wah).

Were the “extras” at the request of Sarah Palin or just provided by decision makers outside of Palin and company? How much of these costs were the result of the uninvited paparazzi? Goodness knows Sarah made no attempt to include/invite/provide details of her trip to these paparazzi.
