A father was dragged from his home and handcuffed in front of his children by a SWAT team looking for his estranged wife - to collect her unpaid student loans.
A stunned Kenneth Wright had his front door kicked in by the raiding party at 6 am yesterday before being dragged onto his front porch, handcuffed and led to a police car with his three children.
He says he was then detained for six hours while officers looked for his wife - who no longer lives at the house.
Mr Wright was later told by Stockton police that the order to send in the SWAT team came from The U.S. Department of Education who were looking for his estranged wife to collect defaulted loan payments.
Speaking to ABC News 10, a visibly shaken Mr Wright described what happened when he was woken by a banging on his front door.
He said: 'I look out of my window and I see 15 police officers.
Dressed in his boxer shorts, Mr Wright says he rushed downstairs and was about to open the door when it was kicked open.
An officer then grabbed him by the neck before dragging him out onto the front lawn.
His 3, 7, and 11-year-old children were also removed by officers and put in a waiting police car.
'He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there,' Mr Wright said.
'They put me in handcuffs in that hot patrol car for six hours, traumatising my kids.'

So what were they going to do with her? Put her in jail for not paying back the loan?
I have to wonder about the mentality of those “officers”.
In another place and time, they’d have been pushing people into cattle cars. Just following orders you know.
I looked up the how/when/why of this....the law establishing the Dept of Education was ammended in 2002, to allow their Inspector General Division to carry weapons....

A debt is a civil matter - you sue in courts to collect. This is the DOE making an “example” of what they will do. In the end, taxpayer dollars will go to settle the law suit against DOE, but thousands of borrowers will remember the incident and start paying...The time has come to shoot back. Arm yourselves, your families. Teach your children how to shoot and instruct them to do so when someone breaks down the door. The same jackasses who want to educate illegals for free want to use SWAT teams to arrest US citizens who don’t pay their student loans? Remember the left’s hand wringing that Reagan was going to usher in a 1984 style society?
And yet many here on FR think these people will PRTECT them from a dictorship. If cops are told to get your guns, they will do so, and you had best know it now.
We are a police state and its going to be a bumpy ride.
I knew after that we as a country were in real trouble, that the second amendment is really our most important, and that I'd better get in there and be a Tea Party member to throw the bums out and try to eliminate useless gov't agencies.
And what would have been the least bit wrong about resisting this latest act of tyranny?

If she were lucky - lucky they didn't shoot her on sight.
Now that the gov’t has taken over all student loans, it's now been classified, instead of a ‘default” - embezzlement and/or fraud and is listed in with everything else - under Homeland Security.
It's time to reevaluate how you get your/your children's education. Student loans payments kick in upon graduation, but you may not find a job for some time - or you may do fine for a few years, then have a loss of job or an illness and miss some payments - the gov’t doesn't care - you are a criminal.
There are now ways to get an education/profession and have no loans. Indeed, to be making a living WHILE getting your education. You may miss ‘the college experience” - i.e., partying. boozing, spring breaks...but you will LIVE FREE.
