Rush Limbaugh: Wrong on Margaret Thatcher and Sarah Palin (The Guardian strikes back!)
The Guardian ^ | Thursday, June 9, 2011 | Nicholas Watt

Posted on 06/08/2011 6:45:20 PM PDT by kristinn

Rush Limbaugh the US conservative radio host, was angry on Wednesday after I blogged that Margaret Thatcher would not receive Sarah Palin if the darling of the Tea Party movement visits London in July.

Limbaugh opened his show with a lengthy denunciation of the Guardian after I quoted an ally of Thatcher on Tuesday describing Palin as "nuts".

SNIP

Members of the Thatcher circle are highly protective of the former prime minister, 86, who has suffered from dementia for some years. They ration her appearances with great care and are careful to ensure that she is not used by unsuitable politicians. This is why they feel so strongly that Thatcher should not meet Palin: they believe it would be beneath the dignity of the Iron Lady to meet such a lightweight figure who would use the meeting to burnish her credentials as the keeper of the Reagan flame.

The Thatcher ally quoted in my original blog told me on Wednesday that members of her circle were standing by their decision after the description of Palin as "nuts" was reported in the US. This is what the ally told me on Wednesday:

"Margaret will not be meeting Sarah Palin. If necessary we will make sure that Margaret has an off day when Palin is in London."

SNIP

The lesson is clear. Report people's real thoughts about Palin with care or Rush Limbaugh will take a run at you with his cigar.

When did Palin make any pronouncements about meeting Thatcher?

The only wish we were light weight politicians. The real heavy weights are only interested in ‘showing their stuff’, not anything to do with running the gov’t.

And I doubt that any president has known everything about everything. I look at the kind of people they get their info from. Obama has failed in the category, categorically!

It’s Rush over the idiots at the Guardian any day. Who else but a newspaper hires those of no intellect?

Oops, forgot.

Obama.

IIRC Sarah Palin stated how much she admired Margaret Thatcher, and mused that IF she was willing to give her audience she would very much like to visit her when she is in London.

IIRC that’s all she said, so what is the big deal?

Well, it is true that Tories think most Americans are nutters. American Conservatives do not have much in common with their English counterparts. I doubt they had a very good opinion of Reagan either until his policies proved successful, and of course George Bush had a closer friend in Blair than in anyone on the other side of the House. What angers me is the vulger slap at Palin by the leeches around Thatcher. All they had to do is tell Palin people that she was unable to see anyone. But they just HAVE to meddle in American politics, something about which they know little.

Thatcher has had a series of small strokes over the last 10 years. She had has a fall not long ago where she broke her arm, and she had to be told her children’s names, and also had to be reminded that her husband Dennis had long since passed away.

That said, Palin is no Thatcher. Sarah Palin is only potential at this stage; Margaret Thatcher actually had the experience of leading a nation for almost 12 years. Thatcher actually stopped and reversed flat out Socialism in Britain. Palin is only an aspirant at this stage. Thatcher has actually walked the walk. Once Palin actually does, then the comparisons can flow. They have no merit at this point.

Ok, I left out part. Why are the women, light weights, stupid, uninformed, but never a specific arguement about issues. That ‘discussion’ about Paul Revere, don't they have anything more current than that. And is there no other policitian who hasn't taken a bit of license to interpret a piece of history. This is about men who don't like women being strong politicians, period.

Well how about a few men standing up and being a strong conservation willing to stick to his convictions and not waver in front of a camera, HuH?

"Margaret will not be meeting Sarah Palin. If necessary we will make sure that Margaret has an off day when Palin is in London."

This gatekeeper sounds a little concerned that Margaret Thatcher would actually welcome and receive Sarah Palin, fretting over the possible necessity of whisking her away from the premises as he does.

Nobody SAID Sarah was Maggie Thatcher!
She and Lady Thatcher have a lot in common as they are both conservative women and at this stage that's plenty.
BUT NOBODY SAID PALIN WAS MAGGIE THATCHER!

What, are you another Romney droid looking for any excuse to bash Palin too?

Whoa Sparky. Take them off, untie them and put them back on.

I haven't seen anyone compare Palin's accomplishments to Lady Thatcher. The spirit, drive, the philosophy and the right person at the right time in history, perhaps, but not the accomplishments.

From the text. Rush Limbaugh the US conservative radio host, was angry on Wednesday after I blogged that Magaret Thatcher would not receive Sarah Palin.....

I had listened to the initial statement by Rush Limbaugh. Angry? on the contrary. Rush mentioned the times that he was with Margaret Thatcher. This included his driving a golf cart around with Mrs Thatcher Stateside. There was indeed a tone of some regret by Rush, regret that people could be so obtuse (not his word).

He then said that at all times Mrs Thatcher retained a dignified composure and did not even say hurtful things about those she obviously was against. It was not simply her character.

Altogether a masterful commentary by Rush and well done. Not so dignified myself and working class, I would describe all and sundry with their denigration of Sarah.

Miserable lying sods!

"Margaret will not be meeting Sarah Palin. If necessary we will make sure that Margaret has an off day when Palin is in London."

A statement that doesn't even make sense on its face because Thatcher doesn't make public appearances at all anymore: she has "on days". But then, what would we expect from an anonymous source?

Um, no. Palin turned around Alaska. The governor of Alaska has powers that no other governor has. They are the CEO. Palin broke the oil and good ole boy network. In Aug 2008 she had a 88% approval from the voters.

Really, the Democrats have oodles of “anonymous Republican sources” up their butts to bash conservatives with...
Same with the Brits too apparently.

From your unconfirmed report:

"I love London and England ... We hope to be able to visit soon. I'd like to meet with Margaret Thatcher."

This is not a pronouncement.

pronouncement [prəˈnaʊnsmənt]

n 1. an official or authoritative statement or announcement
2. the act of pronouncing, declaring, or uttering formally

In fact Palin has never said she was going to meet Thatcher.

Rush is right 98.7% of the time and I trust Rush... calling Palin a “lightweight” was the communist buzz word that proved this nothing more than leftist dribble from someone that anyone close to Thatcher would spit in the face of.

There is a greater chance that no one around Thatcher said anything. The Brit libs lie more than the slimes... watch the BBC and see what I mean.

The Left Maggie once despised are her “handlers” now.

Sadly in her old age the Right has abandoned her.
