The backstory on Weiners implosion
So the Democratic leadership has called on Anthony Weiner to resign, in the wake of news that he had connected with a 17 year old girl through social media. The family has claimed that nothing was untoward, but suddenly, a fusillade of statements came from Dem leaders today demanding he resign.
Heres what happened, according to a senior Democratic aide. Nancy Pelosi had been privately urging Weiner to resign and seek treatment for days, the aide says. But he told her today that he would take a temporary leave of absence and seek treatment. Once she heard that, she released a statement calling on him to resign.
Congressman Weiner has the love of his family, the confidence of his constituents, and the recognition that he needs help, Pelosis statement said. I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress.
Similar statements came out today fromChris Van Hollen and DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
My understanding is that Pelosi and other Dem leaders were angry with Weiner because he lied to them, publicly and privately. After the news of the first Tweet broke, he privately assured Dem leaders that he had been hacked and that there was nothing to the story, Im told.

Pelosi declines to call for Weiner’s resignation
Fri Jun 10, 7:07 pm ET
WASHINGTON Amid increasing calls for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.
He really thinks pelosi and zero are going to backtrack on their calls for him to resign? Some kind of death-wish.
For people and a party who have built their careers on lies, they apparently can dish them out but can't take them...
These Dem leaders lie for their cause (socializing America against its will) every time their lips move.
Lying isn’t a big deal.
But you see, he lied to them personally about a personal matter and they withheld judgement on the facts, and now their feelings are hurt and they don’t trust his word on anything.
Oops, maybe lying is a big deal after all...
Ha, ha, that is better than some of the other images associated with this story.
I wonder what kind of treatment Weiner will get? I didn’t realize there was a cure for arrogance and stupidity.
This is a joke, right?
The rats' very lives and positions in government revolve around them being shameless liars. Angry?
i.e, How Weiner screwed himself
I must be living in bizarro land!
I thought for sure that San Fan Nan came out with a statement yesterday fully supporting Weiner in his bid to stay in the House.
Today she is against him?? Who got to her??
Your comment made me realize something. It seems to me that liars get more outraged when they are lied to. People who tell the truth seem to handle it better when someone lies to them.
A generalization, but, I think a telling one.
I think that Pelosi and the Dems had to be incredibly stupid and naive to believe the Weiner! When he first opened his mouth I knew he was lying.
It is one thing to lie to the peons (aka the citizens of our Republic), but it is quite another thing altogether to lie to another huckster.
I saw this on FNC and CNN today. My thoughts are more that this is a big Democrat scam, Pelosi says publically she wants Wiener to resign while privately telling him to ‘go away’ into ‘treatment’ (Treatment ???? LOL) until the MSM moves on to something else, like the Ryan plan.
Remember when Pelosi fled to China to hide from the press over her statement that the CIA lied to her? Same idea.
“Congressman, take a seat and let me ask you a few questions...”
Interesting that the Dem leaders are incensed mainly because they were lied to. But I thought we learned from Clinton that lying was okay if it was about sex. Wonder what changed since then.
Note that there is no mention that the Dem leaders had a problem with Weiner’s perverse behavior—just the lying about it.
