Earth heading for another 'Little Ice Age'

By staff writers From: NewsCore June 17, 2011 5:45AM

EARTH may be heading for a "Little Ice Age", according to scientists at two leading US research institutions.

Researchers from the US National Solar Observatory (NSO) and the Air Force Research Laboratory were considering today whether a decline in solar activity could lead to a period similar to the Maunder Minimum in the 17th century, when there were virtually no sunspots for 70 years.

During this period, known as the Little Ice Age, temperatures dropped and up to 28cm of ice formed in Europe.

New analysis of the Sun's interior, surface and corona showed that the next cycle of sunspot activity "will be greatly reduced or may not happen at all".

Dr Frank Hill, of the NSO's Solar Synoptic Network in Sunspot, New Mexico, said, "The fact that three completely different views of the Sun point in the same direction is a powerful indicator that the sunspot cycle may be going into hibernation".

Looks like we need to crank up the SUV’s to counter this with greenhouse gases.

Hey, if it ain’t Globally Warming, then it must be an Ice Age. No worries the same bespectacled, birckenstock shod, former hippies with tenure will get massive government grants to explain it to us dweebs.

Hey, if it ain’t Globally Warming, then it must be an Ice Age.

We're in the fifth or sixth interglacial period of the current ice age.

Yup. Those so called scientists should be strung up by their slide rules.

Dare I say it: THEY WERE WRONG!

LOL!

.......

“However, Joanna Haigh, professor of atmospheric physics at Imperial College London, said that global warming could reverse a cooling effect.

“Even if the predictions are correct, the effect of global warming will outstrip the Sun’s ability to cool even in the coldest scenario, and, in any case, the cooling effect is only ever temporary,” she said. “When the Sun’s activity returns to normal, the greenhouse gases won’t have gone away.”

AlGore: See! I told you! It has worked!

Thanks to all of you, we have reversed the warming trend that I warned you about.

Now, can I interest anybody in some ice credits?

But, didn’t you know, ice ages are caused by global warming, which melts the ice and disrupts the gulf stream, cooling the poles... < /sarc >

Based on the historical record and studies done over many years I can believe that this is possible although not necessarily a sure thing and it has nothing to do with the activities of man. Climate can be affected by many physical, astrophysical and geological processes but man’s effect is like a pimple on the ass of time.

I fart in your general direction algore and proudly expand my carbon footprint.

Not from any state — but, I do have experience working outdoors, north of the Arctic Circle.

Fur — you can't beat it. While some of the newest synthetic materials come close, for holding in the body heat; you simply can't beat wolf or coyote fur, for the trim on a parka. When it's really cold (colder than -40*), you can draw the trim fur around your face & still look and breath through it. If you tried this with synthetics, you'd only succeed in creating icicles.

After the shenanigans at East Anglia and the IPCC. I'm not really sure what 'actual science' looks like any more. The individuals with a hammerlock on academia are no longer pursuing the truth they are attempting to 'save the phenomenom' by the use of modern dogma no different from Ptolemy and the flat earthers. And this will continue as long as the tenured gentry in their 'academic' committees keep hiring their like minded friends and excluding real dissenters.

As I recall one of the first artic expeditions brought the latest wool clothing and froze their asses off. Later ones adopted the sealskin garments of the natives and did rather better.

Are all the global warming scary stories now going to have the word “warming” crossed out in crayon and cooling put in it’s place.

Al Gore’s going to have to change a lot of paperwork!

“Are all the global warming scary stories now going to have the word “warming” crossed out in crayon and cooling put in it’s place.”

You forget that before this global warming thing, the world’s leading climatolists were predicting global cooling. Same cause, CO2 emissions, different effect.

So to be more accurate you should say: “all the global warming scary stories now going to have “cooling” replacing “warming” replacing “cooling”.

But this just goes to show that the key to successful predicting is to predict often.

Global Warming, Global Cooling, it doesn’t matter. Either way it is clearly Bush’s fault.

Womyn and minorities will be hardest hit.
