Michele Bachmann’s record: Earmarks, farm subsidies and pardons?
dailycaller ^ | May 15, 2011 | Matt Lewis

Bachmann may also be plagued by her involvement in a controversial pardon. In 2007, Bachmann wrote a letter requesting a presidential pardon for a convicted drug-smuggler and money-launderer named Frank Vennes. Vennes was convicted of money laundering in 1988 and pleaded no contest to a cocaine and weapons charge. Making matters worse, he and his wife donated a total of $27,600 to Bachmann’s 2006 and 2008 election.

“The problem isn’t earmarks, it’s spending.”

If earmarks aren't spending, what are they?

Since this Earmarks issue has come up, I have some links and quotes on this.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,508604,00.html
Ron Paul - “I have never voted for an earmark. I voted against all appropriation bills.”

“An earmark is a congressional provision that directs federal agencies to spend funds already authorized on specific projects.
If the funds aren’t earmarked, the agencies can spend the money any way they see fit.
That is, the executive branch, rather than Congress, will determine how the taxpayer’s money is spent.”

http://www.ronpaul.com/2009-03-11/ron-paul-on-earmarks/
“What is done is those earmarks are removed and some of them are very wasteful and unnecessary,
but that money then goes to the executive branch.”

“We’re supposed to tell the people how we’re spending the money.
Not to just deliver it in the lump sum to the executive branch and let them deal with it.”

"What will you do when Palin decides not to run and it's down to Romney, Pawlenty, or Bachmann?"

God help us! I'm afraid BO will get in again even if he doesn't want it. The field on our side scares me. Shades of Bob Dole all over again!

If it’s down to Romney or Bachmann, it’s Romney in a walk.

A member of the House makes 1/435th of half of a decision. A senator makes 1/100th of half of a decision. A mayor or governor often has to make the whole decision and take responsibility for it.

Very little responsibility attaches to a House members vote.

This is old news. She wrote a letter, later rescinded, nothing more. She didn’t kill anyone like Huckabee.

I figured the RATs would go after Bachmann once she announced, but didn’t think FR would jump in too. Btw this article is about a month old, not sure why you’re posting it now...

Didn't you know she only took in foster children because she needed babysitters for her biological children? I mean the Daily Beast reported it so it must be so, no?

The Daily Caller could be a great site but they've decided to go in the gutter to compete with Politico, Huffington Post and Daily Beast.

The Daily Caller could be a great site but they've decided to go in the gutter to compete with Politico, Huffington Post and Daily Beast.

The Daily Caller is run by the sometimes nerdy sometimes funny Paulbot Tucker Carlson.

His bio in part:

Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is the elder son of Richard Warner Carlson, a former Los Angeles news anchor and U.S. ambassador to the Seychelles who was president of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and director of Voice of America. His mother is Patricia Caroline Swanson , former wife of Howard Feldman and an heiress to the Swanson food-conglomerate fortune. He has a brother, Buckley Swanson Peck Carlson. A great-uncle was Sen. J. William Fulbright.

He attended St. George's School, a boarding school in Newport, Rhode Island. After graduation, he majored in History at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

Quite interesting Bachmann got in on the Palin bashing off the bat as well. She’s nowhere near Palin and pathetic she has to start off like that and think that puts her in a better position.

That says it all. Great post. What I really don’t like is off the bat having Rollins attack Palin in an extremely personal, insulting statement. Bachmann has kept him and remained silent. That is what she thinks will make her the better choice than Palin? Incredibly grade school, nasty insults. Not how she’s better or her record is better. She failed this test.

Bachmann did it to herself when she sent Rollins out to attack Palin. You can’t whine when people start looking at why she is not better and ‘smarter’ than Palin. Bachmann made it personal with the insults.

Wow, I bet this was fisrt posted over at DU. I understand you like Palin, but you see, she isn’t in the race.

But thanks for toiling so hard to destroy the conservatives that are running.

thank you for this post. actions speak louder than words. she talks the talk well...but her record isn’t all that impressive especially in light of what she is running for. she is a lawyer type, executive leader? commander on chief material? not so much. still appalled by her strategy and the nerve of her to run in the first place. she should be working on Sarah Palin’s campaign or run for the Senate...not vying for her own little VP spot alongside a RINO who supports universal healthcare. She is putting herself and her ego before the movement and I believe she suffers from an inferiority complex next to Palin.

Romney’s dark horse indeed.

Bachmann is so big headed, she is forgetting to see that by subjecting herself to the scrutiny and politicking that comes with a presidential run, she risks damaging her political career as a whole including her future in roles more suitable for someone of her stature, like Senator...ESP if she continues on in her current efforts to demean Governor Palin..
