AARP Pivots on Social Security Benefit Cuts (President Bush was right)
Fox News ^ | 6/17/2011 | fox news

AARP, the powerful lobbying group for older Americans, was dropping its long-standing opposition to cutting Social Security benefits, a move that could rock Washington's debate over how to revamp the nation's entitlement programs, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

The decision, which AARP has not discussed publicly, came after a wrenching debate inside the organization. In 2005, the last time Social Security was debated, AARP led the effort to kill President George W. Bush's plan for partial privatization. AARP now concludes that change is inevitable, and it wants to be at the table to try to minimize the pain.

AARP is a classis case of old folks ACORN.

...and speaking of NUTS...

Anyone of any age associating themselves with said organization, needs to have a lobotomy before being locked up for mental instability.

Oh I remember now, we don’t do that anymore, they are free to roam the earth and wreak their havoc on mankind.

AARP’s tax free status needs to be examined closely.

We've been telling these a********* for years that we know we're all getting scr**** by SS.

NO ONE was supposed to collect. It was just a kitty to rape.

No COLA for Seniors for the last 2 years is devastating.

So the AARP, a group dedicated to lobbying for more money, benefits, and legislation for seniors, now is no longer supporting legislation that gives benefits and money to seniors.

However, they DID lobby for medical care that will make it easier to KILL seniors.

Wow, sign me up to THAT organization.

The GOP is actually playing the debt ceiling increase pretty smart. The word I'm getting is that the GOP negotiators are making Medicare cuts mandatory with Democrat's names on it so they can no longer use it as a wedge issue.

AARP, along with many other "helping" organizations are part of a column from the cake called enslave America. The media and our universities are the others.

I hope you all love being told what to do from birth to death...it's here.

AARP pushed for government bureaucrats and crooked politicians to make your health decisions for you...tells you all you need to know

“AARP now concludes that change is inevitable”

So why doesn’t Paul Ryan believe changes to SS are inevitable? What kind of times do we live in when AARP is more conservative on SS than the Republican leadership?

Old folks think it’s “free” and anything not nailed down belongs to them (they hide sugar packets in our local restaurants around Sun City Hilton Head). So look at all the “free things” you get from ARRP ... that’s the attraction. They’ve marketed it as an entitlement of the elderly and the elderly “expect” it. I dumped them years ago ... along with anything else with solid lib ties. “Hurry and sign up for ARRP and you get all the discounts at the motels”. Some of my neighbors absolutely disgust me with their stupidity ... and they are old enough to know better!

Yes, change is inevitable and it needs to happen NOW. I find it absolutely sickening that some Americans think their SS should be protected at the expense of this country as a whole. We were all promised something and it will take all of us sacrificing to turn things around. The money is not there. That being said, it will be interesting to see if AARP walks the talk.

When GWB had the stones to change SS AARP (and the rest of the liberals) screamed like banshees. The reason was they could not allow the fix of this program, created by the Democrats and their personal claim to eternal fame, to be accomplished by anyone but themselves. Now that OSTUPID is in the WH they are suddenly all for change and in fact want to even take credit for the fix themselves, at least in part.

and they are old enough to know better!

That is the part that gets to me. How
old people grew up during the depression,
WW1 and WW2. and now think the way they
do. I hear the word ‘Free’ used so freely
to distort, disguise, and deceive as to the
real meaning of FREE. If it is free, someone
somewhere, is paying.

Free IMHO should be used to describe our status
under the Constitution, in this great land. Anything
else is distortion of the concept.
