Facebook lost nearly 6m users in the US last month, according to figures from Inside Facebook, sparking fresh concern that the social network’s growth is slowing.
Total monthly active users on the site still grew by 1.7 per cent between the beginning of May and early June, taking its total to 687m, according to Inside Facebook, part of the Inside Network, which provides news and analytics tools for social media, virtual goods and mobile apps.
But in the US there was a drop for the first time in a year, from 155.2m to 149.4m during the month of May. Canada also lost 1.52m users, while the UK, Norway and Russia lost “more than 100,000”.
That was all offset by big gains in Brazil, India, Mexico and Indonesia, Inside Facebook says, but “overall growth has been lower than normal for the second month straight, which is unusual”.

Having internet access when you are down on your luck, laid off, etc, is crucial. All about job hunting, and that is how you job hunt. Unless someone wants to drive to Starbucks, library, and spend forever in an uncomfortable environment job hunting. I have had several periods over the last 15 years where I have had to cut out a lot, but kept internet access.
In fact, with some of the VOIP technologies, you can get cheaper phone access at home. I have Magicjack, $20 a year.

I agree FR does not exercise your body. But FR, unlike FB, exercises your mind.
I’m not the individual who said that FB was destructive, but from a law enforcement point-of-view, Facebook is a great tool for criminals.
People accept friend, who they may know noting about, and then share all kinds of intimate details such as work schedules, vacations, and so on. Now, the guy who wants to rob your house knows that you just bought a new flat-screen TV or computer and that you’ll be at work from 8 -4 and the dog is at the vet getting fixed.
FB can also be used for cyberstalking, corporate espionage, child luring and exploitation and so on.
Not just FB, like everything else, all of the features for the average user are also features that can be used by the bad guys. And people tend to put way, way too much personal information out on the Internet.
I have a smart phone and thus, for $75 per month, I no longer need a land line or land internet, or an mp3 player or a gps etc. That is why the cell is the last to go... it is saving me money. Luckily I am blessed to be relatively comfortable in my finances at this time.
What you put on Facebook is up to you. If you put your SSN, address, phone number, bank account information, questionable or incriminating photos and criminal background history on there, it is your own fault. If you put little info other than your name and G rated photos to share with friends and family, there is nothing to see. It is all how you use it. It certainly can be destructive if you choose to make it that way, but it can also be a great tool. I disagree that it is intrinsically evil.
I rarely get an email from friends or family these days . Everybody connects through Facebook . Love it !
I agree. My younger relatives no longer use email. They communicate thru facebook private messaging. I have been put back in contact with people I hadn’t heard from in years. It just depends on how you use it. And that you set your privacy settings correctly.

Me, too. And I love seeing pictures of everyone and keeping up with long-lost friends and relatives. And discussions with other conservatives.
I’ve been cautious with FB, but their obvious data mining is becoming blatant. In the last few weeks, I keep getting friend suggestions for people whom I ONLY know professionally. How deep is the mining to put those suggestions together.
The Wal-Mart Straight Talk is a great deal. $45 per month for unlimited talk, text and internet and I haven’t had any problems with service anywhere. Been using it a long time. No contract, no sign-up fee, just pay as you go.
The program, to me is slow and cluncky.
I would be happy if they just sent them by email.
Some employers now require you to apply online. And you can find all sorts of jobs on one website. I don’t see how people live without the internet. If I had to, I could, but I sue wouldn’t want to.

Me too. But... that sort of thing is pretty much the limit of it's use usefulness. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread... it's not the invention of television or the automobile... it's just a bit easier than sitting down and writing postcards.
