NBC dumps 'God' from Pledge of Allegiance (Poll)

NBC golf commentators just apologized for a big oops that has people fired up all over the Internet.

In a patriotic, rah-rah-America video that opened NBC's coverage Sunday of the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the reading of the Pledge of Allegiance by a group of children in a classroom setting ommitted the phrase "under God."

This was the abbreviated version: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all."

The kids can actually be heard reciting the pledge twice; the second version leaves out "under God" and "one nation," too.

Immediately, viewers cried foul, taking to Twitter and comment boards, calling NBC "scumbugs" and pledging to boycott the network.

Later, NBC commentators apologized to viewers who had been offended.

Actually you cannot “dump” Under God from the pledge, if you leave the phrase out, it no longer is the pledge.

This is sickening and I hope people continue to express their ire at NBC.

I'm composing a message to them now.

The phrase “one nation under God” does not contain a comma and the words “one nation” modify “under God”...so our pastor teaches to not pause during the phrase “one nation under God” as is the common practice.

Here's what I wrote:

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy, who was a Baptist minister and a Christian. It was amended in 1954 to include the words, "one nation under God". I find it completely unacceptable for NBC to have omitted these words from the Pledge and in doing so offending Christians around the country, myself included. I find it even more unacceptable that your weak apology precluded the word "God" as well.

I have been an avid viewer of NBC broadcasts for most of my 53 years. But I refuse to support any network that willfully disparages Christians across this nation as NBC has done. Moreover, I am and have always been willing to contact sponsors notifying them that I will no longer purchase the products and/or services of any company who advertizes on such a network.

I am recording the US Open as I have always done. I will use my recording to make sure I do not miss a single NBC sponsor in my effort. Additionally, I will be writing letters to many newspapers in the Southern California area. With circulations in the millions, this will ensure your offensive actions will be known to more than just those who watched the Open.

Good luck selling your anti-God campaign to the scant few Americans who agree with your position that the Pledge should not include the word “God”. You have alienated me and many millions of Americans forever.
